im kinda new at this...i have been tryin to read abt headphoes and understand as much as I can, but if I could get some help. First of all if someone can explain the importance of amps with the headphones and then the difference bteween open and closed.
All Im lookin for is a decent pair of headphones...i currently own a Sennheiser PCX 300 and a Sony MDR-XD100. The sennheiser are good but since Im workin now I wanna get a decent pair. My friend who is crazy abt headphones suggested I get a Ultrasone, Grado labs or a westone. He said these were the 3 best, but I am not sure which one to get.
I wanna get the best available but thts too expensive. I just need one thts portable and I have seen the ultrasone and grado labs(amazing quality) and they are big, I need to be able to put them on and go for a run, also I want good quaity of music. My range is it shud not excedd like maybe $300-400.
Can anyone suggest the best headphone for this price?

Pretty odd three. The two most highly regarded here be Grado & Sennheiser, not necessarily the best, but most mentioned here.
As well as those, you'll get one of these[fullsize]:
Ok, help me choose one. Am not an audiophile. So here you go:
1. Its should be portable. I prefer an IEM.
2. Budget - $25 (thats USD) max.
3. I just bought a Sansa Clip early this week and so I only have the earphone that came with it. I want more treble. The default one is bassy. I want to hear those minute sounds. But I don't want it to sound too noisy. I tried an IEM that came with a Sony Walkman phone and it sounded like there was too much noise.
4. I listen to native music (India classical/light music) and rock/progressive rock/psychedelic rock (Dire Straits, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Opeth etc) mostly. Also podcasts/lectures.
5. Player: SanDisk Sansa Clip 2GB. No amplifier.
Currently after going through various websites and reviews am looking at
1. JVC HAFX33 "Marshmallow" - not available here in India.
2. Sennheiser PX100 - this is out of my budget but read good things about it.
3. Sennheiser HD201/HD202 - found these on amazon.com. Within my price range. But not portable.
3. Various Sony models available here in india. - (Headphones : Sony India )
Hm. So I narrowed down my list with things i'll find here.
1. Creative EP-630
2. JVC HAFX33B "Marshmallow" (not available here, but I think I can ship it pretty cheap or ask someone to buy me)
3. ATH CK5
4. ATH CK32 (i read pretty bad stuff about this one here)
So help me choose among the above. I need decent bass (not too much) and good details (treble).
