HD650 / HD600 / HD580 - Comfortable, Uncomfortable, or Fractured?
Is your HD650, HD600, or HD580 comfortable, uncomfortable, or fractured?
Please first read this post. You can vote for more than one option since you may have owned more than one.
I lump these models together because their fit is similar and each can be properly adjusted in the same way.

Do not bend or torque the non-metal part of the headband, the part that goes over your head. Doing so unnecessarily stresses it, which can result in an immediate or eventual fracture.
Properly adjust your HD650, HD600, or HD580. Immediately customize its comfort, prevent premature degradation of the ear pads, and minimize the chance of fracturing the non-metal part of the headband. The metal part of the headband that extends between the ear cups and plastic part of the headband is designed to be adjusted. It is very sturdy metal, and it bends. I only recommend doing this if you understand the following procedure.
The Procedure:
Fully extend the headband so no more of the metal part of the headband can be exposed. Grasp one ear cup with one hand and the plastic part of the headband with the other right where the metal part starts to go into the plastic part. To clarify, grasp plastic directly on each end of the metal band, and put your thumbs on the metal band for leverage. Then bend it until the metal band is straight or slightly bent backwards, hold for 3 seconds, repeat X times. Repeat X times with the other side. Repeat until the headphones are as loose as you want. This also can be done to tighten the grip of these headphones. Just bend the metal band in the same manner but in the opposite direction.

I love my 650s and find them very comfortable - like a big, soft, comfy couch.

dittos on the last post. My 650s disappear in just a minute or so, but I find my forehead getting a little damp after an hour.

I never had any comfort issues with HD600/650. Normal usage reduced the clamping enough without manual band-bending.

With normal usage, the stiffness of the ear pads gives before the stiffness of the headband. The headband is much stronger than the foam in the ear pads. And so it's best to properly adjust right from the start, which prevents any period of discomfort and minimizes wear on the pads.

I voted "comfortable without adjustment", but I bought my 580's used. I believe I thought the Senns too clampy the first time I put on a pair at the 1/31/09 DFW meet, so it's likely my pair was adjusted by the previous owner since they didn't look to have been used enough to have just stretched from being worn.

I had my 580s placed over a box for weeks when I wasn't using them, the vice grip clamp was too much for me.

HD650s are a bit tight, but HD580s are comfortable enough to wear forever, IMO. Then again, thanks to having worn my DT48s a lot, pretty much all consumer headphones feel pretty comfortable to me.

I find my HD580s very comfortable and I haven't adjusted them. I am the third (I think) owner of my set, so it's very likely that they've been loosened from use. Maybe one of the previous owners did the adjustment.

The 650s are comfortable as long as you wear them properly. I've found that having the metal bands extended too far can cause some real killer clamping on my ears. The trick is to adjust them tighter then you think they should be. This way, the clamping force is distributed equally across your melon.

After stretching over a speaker when not in use,they became comfortable after a few weeks.As mentioned they can make my noggin sweat on a warm day.
