I went through beyer 990/770, AKG 501, senn 580, and MS1, just to find out I should have went with my first impulse when I joined headfi. But I guess the fun of this hobby is trying different phones. I love my 225s!

Loved them, and for the longest time they were my phones of choice for office/portable use. I preferred them with Flats in the office rig. They were only just recently dethroned by the MS-2is. But up until then, no other phone could top them in my office/portable rig.

Even though I now own MS-2is, PS-1s, RS-1s and GS-1000s, I still kind of miss the SR-225s.

They are great phones, and at $150 used, they are a steal.

Default SR225

Good to see there are so many people loving and supporting SR225. And I have mine a month ago, still burning in. Now I am seeking a amp for it, between PA2V2, Go Vibe 6 and Storm B4, which one is the best for the cost and performance? I am using Sony D515 discman to drive it up.

Buying flat pads is more important than an amp, unless you really love the sound of bowls.

I bought the SR225's as my first real headphones, and I'm pleasantly surprised. Given that:

a) I am not a big fan of "bright" sound
b) I get a headache easily while listening
c) I don't have my amp yet, so I'm playing them out of my ipod, or laptop.

I expected them to be a painful listening experience. But it's not at all. I really like them so far and I can listen a long time with no problems. Lots of detail, but no fatigue. It's a light, airy sound, but not overly thin or lean.

I've ordered some AKG K701's so I'll soon have something to compare against.

They ROCK like none other that ive heard anyway. And now they sound even better with a little bass kick and airiness added by my move.

A nice wide soundstage, and pleasantly detailed headphones are good sometimes, but you feel the guitar shredding on these. These are FUN.

Hi, i just received the SR-60 and i actually found out that i like them better than the Senn HD580...so naturally i'm thinking that if the sr-60 sound this good, what about SR-225? But i would like also to get a I-POD video 5.5G and im not sure if they will sound right straight out of the ipod....
So i need your advice...
Thanks!

For me, sr225s aren't anywhere close to what the could be straight from an ipod. Comparing sr80s (very close to sr60s) to sr225s straight from an ipod, i found the difference to be very small, where as using an amp, the difference was much greater. IMO, it is not worth upgrading if you do not plan on getting an amp (any amp really) in the future.

I've gone from SR60 > MS1 > SR225 > MS2i and now back to SR225. The SR225s are the sweet spot in Grado for me. I use flat pads and pair it with a warm amp (Headfive) and the sound is amazing. No 'grato' sound like I felt when listening to SR80/125/325i, but it still has the amazing highs, aggressive mids and very satisfying bass. The MS2i also provided everything I loved about the SR225, but I felt it was too resolving, revealing all the flaws of my lesser recordings. SR225 is just right.

rwest1389 makes a good point however, unless you plan on pairing the SR225 (or really, any Grado above an SR60) you won't hear the benefits on the SR225 and might as well just get an SR60 and save the difference. Contrary to what many say, these headphones need extra power to shine.

The SR225 were the first Grado cans I ever heard. Before that I was listening to the AKG701 and HD650. Once I heard the Grado sound I was in love. It was what I've been looking for. I still do turn to the 701 and definitely the 650, but I really liked the SR225. I now have the RS1 and sometimes think about the SR225 I once had. But, for the price and sound it can't be beat. It is one solid can for sure

The first pair of "good" headphones I ever owned were Grado SR60s. I eventually sold them off to fund the purchases of other equipment, but always missed them. My recent purchase of SR225s has more than filled that void.

I've had mine for about a week now, sweee-ee-eet phones,

Did attemp to burn in with a cycle of 1 minute of white to 20 minutes of pink, then 2 minutes is digital silence,( in that order) for approximatley 38 hours and i must say, I think I can actually hear a difference from the straight stock cans I had a week ago,

anyways trying to show some love for the SR225's

It doesn't seem like folks here love the SR-225 quite as much as some other Grados. I guess for many they are just a transition point to higher-level cans.

Mine should come Friday. Man, I can't remember the last time I was getting this impatient with fedex
