Default Gaming headphones!

Hi guys! This is my first thread, i have used the search fonction but nothing seems to tell me exactly what I want to know.
I currently have the sennheiser pc155 with the USB sound card. They're nice, but I'm thinking there is probably something better.
I have seen the Sennheiser hd555 which look pretty nice, i have read a couple reviews and some other counter-strike players saying good things about them.
My question is, will I see a good improvement over what I currently use? Do you think there is something better for that price considering it is mostly used for gaming?
They need to be confortable and not too hot so I can wear them on long stretches like lan parties(3-4 hours periods). I don't really care the fact that there is a microphone or not.
By the way, I live in canada, so if you show me something better than the hd555, they need to be sold in canada.
Thanks

Yup, most definitely.

Nope, I think these are pretty much the best all-around headphones near the $100 USD price point.

They are pretty comfy with velour pads. Good choice.

Welcome, and sorry about the wallet

Hi

If you wouldn't mind upping your budget by about $50 you could get the best headphone for gaming. The Beyerdynamic DT770-80 is a BIG improvement. If you need an open headphone, HD555 is also pretty good.

I had those and then I bought the A900s because they are debated so much as the best gaming phones, I prefered the A900s by a pretty large margin, the A500s which are right $100 I am told sound 90% as good. The beyers where great to but prefered the a900s for games and most music, not all but most. You can't go wrong with the sens either so hear (I have not heard them personally). I am using SA5000s right now but thats not really practicle lol. Check the private sales forums most people don't mind shipping to canad, hell tom. I picking up some SA5000s from amazon for a guy in germany and shipping them to him so that is a option as well.

This has been discussed many times.

The HD555 comes in 2 varieties: one has 120 ohms impedance, the other 50 ohms. Make sure you're getting the 50 ohm version, since it's easier to drive. You're using these unamped, right?

The other consideration is an open vs. a closed headphone. The HD555 is fully open, meaning that it doesn't isolate at all and others around you can hear what's playing. This can be a curse and a blessing for gaming - on a lan, you'll hear people saying stuff to you while you're playing, which may be a good thing when you're trying to coordinate teamwork, or a bad thing if you're trying to filter out idiots that keep shouting about how l33t they are. Not to mention all of the peripheral computer noise that you'll be very much aware of.

So, if you want a closed alternative to the HD555, take a look at the Audio-Technica ATH-A500. It's in the same league sonically and costs $110 (US) from audiocubes, and I think they ship to Canada. Anyway, if they don't, I think bluetin does?

The Beyer DT770 is a really great gaming headphone, but it needs an amp. Even the 80 ohm version feels underdriven without one. I think that's the reason why I'll be selling mine soon and getting a second A900 for gaming (Dad tapped the 1st one. He plays more games than I do! What the f***?!?). Having said that, I think that the positioning on the DT770 is second to none. In Quake 3 (and now Q4) every single sound is perfectly spatially localized, and my awareness and prediction have improved considerably since I started using it (and this is over an HD600).

Whichever you decide to go with will very likely make you very happy.

Anybody has tried both a500 and a900, someone said the sound of the 500 was like 90% of the a900 and there is a 100$ difference, so if it's the case, i'll go with the 500 if not well the 900.

the only 'phones I've gamed with are the Koss portaPros and the Creative HN-505. I prefer the portaPros, they have a much more realistic sound than the 505s. My freind uses the HD202s that I got him, and he loves them.

I think Chaintech AV-710 + amp is a better value than just a Creative X-Fi card.
