Default Gaming: Dynamic or Electrostats?

I'm pressed between two setups. I'm mainy going to be gaming, using a setup like this:

PS3/360 ----- (Toslink/optical)---> Astro Gaming Mixamp----> Headphone setup

I am torn between these two:

DT880 and Little Dot MKIV or STAX SRS-2050A (headphones and amp).

Which one would be better? I currently use an Audio Technica AD700 and its great, but the bass a little lacking. I am looking for the best soundstage and a decent bass response. I like playing FPS games such as BFBC and COD4. Thanks for your responses.

both are overkill imo. i would take the dynamic setup just because i've seen them being described as having better bass performance than *similarly priced* electrostatics. ofcourse, i don't have personal experience with electrostats and i'm just repeating what i've read. just wait for the stax owners to chime in.

I think you will be happy with DT880 or A900 both work great for gaming. Stax is an overkill for gaming IMHO, it primarily catered for music not gaming.

Both setups are similarly priced, how would it be overkill to use Stax?

I probably would go for the E-Stats for gaming out of what you propose, although my most favorable gaming experience was with Ultrasone Proline 2500.

I will also use them for music, but probably 30% music and 70% gaming. I live in an apartment, so I can't have a surround sound system blasting all the time (believe me, I tried it and the neighbors were not real happy), so this is why I want a headphone setup. I also love to hear the minor details, so thats another reason why I chose headphones.

Im looking to spend around $500 give or take (for both amp and headphones). I don't see why it would be overkill because I can't be happy with just any $50 "gaming" headphones.

Btw, thanks for the recommendation MaloS. Another one added to my ever growing list of headphones to research :-)

Y on earth would u need electrostat for "Gaming"??? Save yourself a few bucks on a dynamic setup and use the money to upgrade ur hardware and games.

Dude, they both will end up costing around $520 dollars, so I won't be saving any money buying a dynamic setup.

I wont say one or the other is an overkill because that's for you to decide. Though, to avoid writing a thesis on this, my only firm advice to you is: whatever you get, you must prioritize comfort above all else. It's self explanatory I think. Also, I've been a die-hard multi-platform FPS player since CS 1.0...

Using electrostats for gaming is like using an Aston Martin to fetch groceries-- either sacrilege or irony, but not the practical choice. IMO.
