I'm sorry for quoting myself but I would really like to see if somebody could answer this:

i mainly listen to 80s synthpop and modern electronica, so no high quality recordings for me
then again, i do own very forgiving electrostats...

I listened to some music that was burnt to CD from 192 MP3, 320 MP3, and Flac.

They all sounded amazing.

It's like Stax earspeakers just take what information is there and makes sure you hear every single detail available.

Ok, so it seems that not only perfect recordings are enjoyable with Stax. What do you think about the frequency balance? Would you miss bass quantity/impact coming from MS1 or HD595?

Regards,
Jonas

On Stax earspeakers all the bass is there, it's just not the "head subwoofer" kind you get with some dynamics.

The bass is heard but not felt.

I like this presentation of sound better, as it lets you hear all the details in the bass rather than just feeling the heaphones "attempt" to give tangible bass.

If you want that you're better off going with speakers.

Other than bass, Stax does everything better. Detail, clarity, transparency, Stax has it in spades.

It will be completely night and day from your HD595s and the MS1.

It was a night and day from DT880s, HD650s, RS1000s, and K701s from a Meier Corda Opera!

That's why I posted it here, hoping someone would know if it's a SR-3 clone. It'll probably go cheap and could be a good, cheap intro to stats. I enjoy my Magnovox SR-3 clone at work. While it's no where near as good as my SR-5, it was a lot cheaper and can give someone an idea of what stats are like.

The impact/tactile thing varies quite a bit on 'stats. Some have it, some have less of it and some have almost none of it.

You definitely feel it with the Koss ESP-9 and Sony ECR-500. These are fully capable of pounding your head when juiced.

You feel a good amount with my modded old Pro driver phones.

You feel not much from SR-X and Gamma.

You feel very little from the Lambdas\303\404.

I use electrostats for all music types I listen to, even modern brick-walled and compressed out the ying-yang recordings. They still sound better to me than most/all dynamic phones I've heard.

Hello!

Today I got a SR-5 and a SRD-6/SB from German ebay which was the safest and easiest way for me.
So, a big thank you to all who replied to this thread. As soon as I get the headphones I'll write down my impressions here if you want me to. We'll see if I'll become a victim of upgraditis... (hopefully not since I'm a poor student but I said the same after buying the HD595).

Regards,
Jonas
