Ear size and the MDR-V6
I had just been informed that the Sony MDR-V6 is sometimes circumaural (surround the entire ear) for people. They are supraaural (pads rest on top of my ears) for me... I was just wondering if I have big freak antenn... i mean, ears... or not. After measuring my ear and the pad's vertical diameter, my ears need to be about half an inch shorter to fit inside the V6's pads.

Aw crap, I just noticed I screwed up. Could a mod fix my poll to say:
* The MDR-V6 is supra-aural for me. I have big ears.
* The MDR-V6 is cirum-aural for me. I have small ears.

Yes, the V6 is definitely circumaural for me. Quite comforable as a result.
These kinds of threads should remind us that it's stupid to vehemently criticize or laud the comfort of any headphone. ...

Big ears + small cans= somewhat uncomfortable experience when worn for more than 30 minutes or so!!

I find that making the V6 circumaural results in poorer soundstage because you have to cant the earcups backwards. But is is possible to have them circumaural for most ears... But for best soundstage I think you should still wear them in the uncomfortable back of ear pinned back position.

How's this? In order for them to be circumaural for me I have to kind of fold my ears in...
Do I just have giant troll-ears?

I think it's a borderline case for me. The pad does not sit on the ear, so technically I guess it qualifies as circumaural, however, the pad is so thin that the diaphragm cover's touching my ear, so it does feel like a supra-aural headphone. It doesn't particularly make me feel comfortable.

Sorry, sorry... I have fat ears too. If mine weren't so gargantuan and fit inside the pads, I'm sure they would make the V6's bulge out. I guess they go along well with my fat head
apologies, no offense intended

I'm sorry too. I guess sometime I take things too seriously, but that's just who I am.
Anyways, I do have a comfort issue with this headphone. I'm considering getting something else to replace it.
