Default dt880 pro or premium, clarification for peace of mind

I am under the impression that the ONLY differences between the dt880 pro and premium phones are cosmetic, i.e. headband, grill and coiled cable.

Otherwise, sonically and internally where it matters they are identical, is this correct, or are they sonically two different headphones?

Cheers

The Pro is reported to be tighter on your head. Also, coiled cables are made in Hell, by Satan himself.

Get the Premium, imo.

I have but didn't realise until after I made the order, hence the panic about the sonic differences.

I was looking for pro's but found a BARGAIN priced pair of dt880's and the price took my attention away from the small detail about them not being pro's... until I looked back at my order lol

Cool, I will open the box up and have a listen then.

Thankls for that man, appreciate it.

Well MAYBE the pro just got a makeover last month, and consumer didn't. Not sure. I found this "press release":

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beyerdynamic Announces New DT 880 Pro Studio Headphones
April 25, 2008

Beyerdynamic presents the DT 880 PRO studio headphones at NAB 2008 in Las Vegas, NV. The DT 880 PRO provides the best of both worlds by combining the strengths of open, transparent headphones with those of more powerful closed headphones. A remake of the classic DT 880 studio headphones, the new DT 880 PRO incorporates special housing forms and improved system equalization to create an ideal set of studio headphones with excellent analytical qualities, one which is capable of reproducing in detail the full spectrum of sound. With the DT 880 PRO critical low end bass signals are brought to the forefront with clarity and without distortion while treble frequencies are kept clear and clean without the harshness of extra high end signal presence. The sturdy steel spring band design with increased contact pressure provides the listener with a secure, comfortable fit while soft ear pads and adjustable, sliding earpieces ensure listening comfort during extended periods of use.

For more information, visit their web site at beyerdynamic worldwide.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found this on:

Harmony Central®: Beyerdynamic Announces New DT 880 Pro Studio Headphones

BUT I could not find it at beyerdynamic.com even thought news.harmony-central linked me there.

btw, ZarakiSan is right as rain, it is truth, not rumor -- the Pro has significantly tighter headband and coiled cable.

Consumer (from the Beyer website):
---------------------------------

Average pressure on ear acc. to IEC 60268-7 -- 2.8 N
Cable length 3 m / flat cable

Pro (also from the site):
------------------------

Headband pressure approx. 3.5 N
Weight without cable 295g
Length and kind of cable 3 m coiled cable

There you have it!

Awesome info cheers mate, turns out a blessing in disguise i got the premium, however accidentally, as these things are tight as it is, the arc of the headband is pretty small and having a mahoosive head like mine means id be scared of snapping the headband lol

on a side note, every headphone I have tried displays increased bass when increasing the clamping force.
