Lets see...
I thought that the DT770's mids sounded incredibly hollow and dry. The bass had no texture to it but there was a lot of it (very overwhelming). The highs were too sharp at times. However, they were very fun for me at one point. The D2000 is a significant improvement. The bass had much more texture to it but it was still really overwhelming in quantity. The mids were much, much more nicer than the DT770. However, the highs are a lot more sharper sounding than the DT770. Overall, the DT770 is more fun and the D2000 has pretty excellent sound quality while also being pretty fun. The D2000's imaging almost competes with the K1000 imo. But I am sick of both headphones so I got rid of them both.

I use may sources, see my public profile, and a Musical Fidelity X-CanV3 headphone amp.
I struggled long with the DT 770's. I had the 80 ohm Pro, and have the 2005 consumer edition.
The bass of the Pro is like it's has a life of it's own. It's not integrated.
The bass is too prominent. You notice it all the time. Mids and higs are okay.
The Denon has a smooth sound, well integrated and balanced.

The DT770 2005 edition is more balanced than the Pro. Bass is integrated. Mids are full and beafy. But the highs are too bright, and there's a lot of sibilance.
The Denon has sibilance at a HD580 level, it's there, but bearable.
The Denon is not bright, yet very lifely and with a lot of slam and kick.
It has a strange magic that wants you to listen to music all the time.
I tried hard with the Beyers, but gave up. Some recordings did very well with them, but most of the time a couldn't stand them.

To sum it up, everything the DT770 does well, the Denon does it at the same level or better.
Everything the DT770 does wrong, the Denon doesn't.

I found the bass on d2000 TOO prominent at times and it'll give me a headache. It doesn't happen very often though, maybe around 10% in my experience with the songs and music I listen to.

I don't have that problem. Maybe because I'm used to the DT770 bass.
I can even play vinyl with the Denon (I have a dark sounding recordplayer).
To my ears the Denon bass is lighter, tighter and faster.

This has been discussed over and over . Denon's do get better during burn in . It takes time , some claim it is done by about 200 hours ,others tell that it takes even more time . Plus I completely
agree with Pataburd and Silverrain ( probably most prominent D2000 hosanna singers here : D ) - the rule is garbage in garbage out . Meaning if the recording has its low frequencies badly recorded D2000 will show it mercilessly and vice versa .
