I am looking for a pair of headphones that has a real punchy, strong, but tight bass. Not the annoying boomy bass. I am first and foremost looking for a headphone that is THE drummer's headphone. Something that can handle the double bass attack from Cryptopsy's Flo Mounier and the crazy cymbal work from Lamb of God's Chris Adler. But also something that will compliment my Grado SR225s well.
I was thinking of the following:
-Ultrasone HFI 780
-Ultrasone PRO 750
-Denon AH-D2000
-Beyerdynamic DT990
-Beyerdynamic DT770
-And maybe something from Audio-Technica (I'm really unfamiliar with their lineup)
I'm really tempted by the 780s for their bass and I've heard they play nice not only with metal but with hard trance also. And I am equally tempted by the D2000 because of their versatility with movies and games.
I am staying away from the reference grade neutral phones like the HD650s and DT880s and K701s because they seem like they are too "boring" for me and it seems like people around here like them for vocals, acoustic, and classical. But as of now, I am more interested in the faster, heavier stuff.
Which should I get. Or should I get an amp instead?
Ultrasone Proline 750 would be otherwise good, but its isolation isnt good enough for drumming, and for drumming you really do need a closed headphone with good isolation.

Perhaps I understood you wrong. Are YOU a drummer? Do you intent to use your headphone in drummer sessions? Or are you just looking for a headphone that does drums nicely? If so, then scratch the isolation part. DT990 is quite good headphone, compliments SR225 well enough. It provides more treble and bass extension and more soundstage, but not as sweet midrange as Grado.

I recently got a pair of D2000s. After letting it break in, I picked them up and the first thing I said was "WOW... Drums!!" This is definitely the ultimate drummer's can, man.
The Ultrasone 750/2500 could be up there, too... but I don't have proper amplification to make them sound that well.

Is D2000 fast and tight enough? Flo Mouniers, Derek Roddys etc... drumming is INTENSE, and so is the music they play on.
