Default Compare/Contrast AKG 271/ATH 900

Hey, while asking for feedback comparing the ATH 900s and several others, the AKG 271 name was thrown out to me. I've gotten info. on the AKG by searching, but no direct comparisn-is anybody in a position to do this? Thanks.

I might as well throw the Beyerdynamic 250-250 in here as well, thats another I've read about on this site-but, most people have concurred that one needs an amp for the Beyer or the AKG to really outperform the ATH.

Don't know if this was one of the threads that you found while searching, but if it isn't it should offer up some decent information for you.

That was one I had read, yets. I would be inclined to spring for the AKGs, and a cheap amp, but by cheap I'm talking like a CMOY mint, or used Porta Corda, if I can find it. However, from reading I've done, it doesn't sound like the MINT offers that much of an upgrade in sonic capability, mostly in volume. Alternatives would be the HeadRoom Airhead or TAH. Are these amps worth getting?

After considering the A900s myself (and nearly buying them twice off the For-Sale boards), I decided to get the AKG K240Ss instead. These cans don't get nearly as much mention as the 271s, but I've read more uniformly favorable comments on the sound of the 240s, whereas with the 271s there's a fairly large proportion of people who found them unbalanced sounding in the mids. I'll post impressions on the "Groovalizers" in a couple of days, but in the meantime read lini's review.

I'm using a HeadRoom New TAH with the AKG K271s. It is a real nice combination IMHO. The soundstage is very wide and 3 dimensional and the bass is extremely tight, punchy and deep. The midrange and highs are sweet.
