Now your here . I read a lot on the forums about this very topic. Try and do a search and you'll find a bunch of threads of people comparing the two and why they like the 600 ohm over the 250 ohm. Best of luck .
I love my 600 ohm DT880s. I have heard the standard 2003 model (not sure if those are 80 ohm or 250 ohm) and prefer mine muchly. Not a proper comparison though - also different equipment...
There is one consideration though. There is no point getting the 600 ohm model and then powering it off a Total Bithead. (Extreme example that I have tried; sounds like crap.) 600 ohms deserve a good amp with lots of voltage. Tubes are an excellent choice - also to warm up the tone.
Don't get me started on the synergy of the Dt880s with USB Monica. My DT880s were retired for more than a year in favour of Darth Beyers. Then Monica came along and my poor Darths are now mostly collecting dust. Monica + DT880s is Sweeeet!

I have a 5 channels power amp that I only use the two main channels. I am thinking of DIYing some contraption to power it through the 2x50w rear channels. That must have enough juice. But I can't get enough information to determine if it is worth doing.
Else I am thinking of pairing it with one of the Little dot. Probably Mk IV or Mk V, I think I am favouring the SS Mk V, but most seems to recommend tube. I think I'll find out more on the amp forum.
The official Beyer web site, under the customization section (MANUFAKTUR) where you can choose the impedance of your phones, clearly (in the pop-up help) says that high-end hi-fi folks and professionals should choose the 600 ohm model with its "minimal moving mass" (I assume that makes for better SQ).
And while you're there check out the way-cool color choices ... I gotta get red-white-and-blue with my name and "USA" engraved on 'em!

Yah the colour choices sure have increased. I think it can be summarised that the high ohms translate into smoother but, unless they have tons of voltage, not as fast.

How much voltage do I need? Are headphone out maintained at nominal 5V?
Btw I'm trying to build one of these Headphone Adaptor for Power Amplifiers I wonder if those resistor value can be fine tuned to tailor to the 600 ohms DT880.
