.. good for product differentiation, rather than "me-too". Shure and UE went dark colors. I love my UM2's in clear. Seeing the insides its like looking at sophisticated scientific equipment.
Oh heck, I've pre-ordered the 3's anyway - saves on the anxiety of reading the early reviews and trying to decide if I want to get them or not.
This discussion all depends on where you live. My guess is Dex doesn't live in NYC. I grew up in "The Valley" of LA and at my junior high school the boys vice principal was beat to death by the students. There are places is this world were it is not wise to show off.
I vote for clear. I would also like to see 3 Customs.
Yeah, I must admit I live in Santa Barbara, California and I wouldn't feel afraid wearing shiny silver IEMs walking down the street. Though aside from that, I think it's in the best interest of Westone to make a product that has style and elegance (see iPOD). To me, clear makes them look like hearing aids.
But it appears I'm in the minority, judging from responses so far. I wonder how much of this is fear of being struck by lightening, or if it's justified based on experience. Are there other people at this forum who have had their IEMs violently ripped from their ears?

I think it's a little stupid to wear expensive looking earware that also serves to inhibit you from detecting anyone who may be sneaking up to steal said earware, but this is life. It's certainly the right of the consumer to want a $400 piece of equipment to look good, and I think it's safe to say that most of the people willing and able to drop $400 on earphones probably don't go strolling through many dark alleys.
That said, would it be so difficult to just offer different colors (for a nominal fee, of course)?

Wisenheimer,
Is this a post based upon your avatar? I live in LA, and have for a long time. I don't recall any news stories about such an event. Searching the LA Times archives back to 1881 also does not turn up anything.
How about some references, otherwise this sounds like something that happened in schoolboy dreams.
Besides, everyone knows "The Valley" ain't that bad.

yes, but not because i was being robbed- some idiot just ripped one out of my ear and stuck it in his...
getting robbed? i don't think that's a problem for me... my hair completely covers my ear, and i run the cables down my shirt (i normally wear 2 shirts) and into my pocket
