camden market!

I spent a semester in Canterbury, and went to Camden many times, HUGE selection of vinyl, the only problem is finding all of the shops, but it will easily take you a few weekends to find everything you want there

Also Notting Hill Gate for the famous Tape and Record Exchange http://www.mveshops.co.uk/interestin...rdshopping.htm
which has branches in Camden and Berwick Street in Soho and other vinyl mecca's, with dedicated shops for different genres in Notting Hill.

They even have a dedicated Classical Shop. There is also the famous Harold Moore in Marlborough Street, Soho and a wonderful shop in Lower Marsh Street behind Waterloo called Gramex, which has a fabulous classical collection going back even to wax cylinders!

http://www.boomkat.com/ in Manchester has the best online shopping experience I've come accross and is probably the most knowledgeable on a huge variety of music.

http://www.interstellarsounds.com and http://www.covert.uk.com/ (Brighton)
are also very good for US imports, specialising in House and Techno.

Germany also has excellent dance music specialists like http://www.formic.de and http://www.hardwax.com/ who have all the US imports sometimes cheaper than the UK and of course there is no import tax as they are in the EU.

Amazon UK sells quite a bit of vinyl. Way more than the Canadian and USA Amazons, anyway.

I'm surprised record companies haven't been pushing it more, as it is an piracy free format.

How is it a piracy free format? They can be converted to mp3 just as easily as CD's. Okay, so not JUST as easily, but it's only slightly harder. Not only that, but there's quite a few places around the net that share vinyl specifically. However, they are vinyls whose copyright has been abandoned.

When I was in London, I went to a shop that had metal on the first floor, and ska/reggae/punk on the bottom floor. Wasn't too expensive, and the rarity factor for some of them was high. Then again, 2nd wave ska hit almost entirely in England, not the US, but they albums were in fantastic shape.

Luckily, here in the US, it's plentiful at second hand shops. I've got 1500+ vinyl that I've acquired over the years. Most of it, I paid no more than $2. Only about 2% of that was sealed, "audiophile quality," though. About 50% never played. And the rest with minimal damage.
