Default PS-1

Well today the last PS-1 was sold and so they will no longer be available. Thanks to everyone who bought one - I hope they are serving you very well.

Question Todd,

Can you divulge how many were produced to your knowledge (or at least how many you sold)? These may be the most limited-production headphones ever (more so than even the HE90).

John mentioned that there were enough parts for about 250. So that is a maximum, but given how Grado usually keeps spare parts for repairs etc, I'd gather around 200? A good indication would be from the last buyer; he could check the number.

Regardless, this is by far the most limited of the Grado line. HP-1000's were 1000, perhaps nearly evenly split. THough HP-3's are technically the rarest (maximum 50 were ever made, and even then that number is estimated to be high) I would think that the fact that the majority of HP-3's were HP-2's anyway, means the PS-1's are truly the rarest. Half of what I would think amounts to either HP2 or HP1.

“The last PS-1 was sold”

WOO HOO!!

Not to speak for Todd but I figure he sold about 2 pair a month since April 2004. It doesn’t seem like a huge number ended up in the hands of consumers.

So yes this is a very limited headphone.

I’m so happy I made the right decision and bought a pair regardless of the number produced. The sound is just amazing.

Thanks Todd and John Grado. John created a Master Piece and Todd got them into our hands.

Mitch

I would be the last one, I talked to Todd this AM and paid the extra to have them sent overnight so I can have them all weekend

I'll check the number on mine tomorrow but it may not mean anything if they were sold out of numeric order.

Yeah, the PS-1 will definitely go down as one of the best Grados and a veritable rarity in a few years.

With the success of the HF-1, any chance of you following up with say a pair of top of the line reference Grado headphones? As I understand it, the PS-1 was commissioned by a German distributor as well...and without the export and import duties, I'd imagine it'd be much more competitively priced.

THey were not sold out of numeric order, at least not in any substantial way since Todd was receiving 2/month and the numbers seemed to grow with each order. My pair is #83 I believe, I'll check when I return home this evening. Mitch what number is your pair? You bought 6 months or so after me.

“Mitch what number is your pair?”

I think there’s a number on the box? I haven’t seen the box since the headphones arrived at the end of June.

Ahh it was in the fridge with the cold pizza. #108 on the box.

“so I can have them all weekend ”

That grins nothing compared to what you’re in store for.

I stayed home from work today so I could receive some cables that needed to be signed for.

Mitch
