The K1000 gives a very pleasurable listening experience for me as well, but it does have more treble energy than the 650/hp2 in my setup, which my ears are sensitive to. Still, in practice it isn't an issue unless I try to listen fairly loudly for a long time. Really, it sounds so good it's going to be one of my top favorite (if not THE favorite) ways to listen to music. If amps and cables make it any better - WOW.

I was just trying to back up why I said they weren't flawless (in a previous post) and I guess it came out sounding like a bad review of these cans - anything but! I'm totally in awe of these nearly flawless cans

Yeah the K1 definitely needs the cord to be changed, that will ease the treble alot and add some liquidity to the mids. And quality amplification is also important, so far I've tried a Firtwatt F1 and a modified dual mono Clari-T amp from Redwine audio. Results are very impressive from both.

Hi All,

I talked to AKG and they told me and assured me the K1000 is NOT being discontinued anytime soon. There are no plans to replace it, discontiunue it or phase it out. Sales of it are still strong and it is still one of the top headphones on the market. So not to fear spare part shortages or the loss of this fine headphone. It will be with us for a while longer!

Todd

I had assumed that they weren't going to discontinue it, and that the price increase is just due to the crappy US Dollar but it is good to hear the official word. Thanks!
