$1695 and still with the little plastic pieces??? Cmon Grado...
This is the second headphone now that they are using the bagels on.
Anyone have an idea about how the bagels might sound with the HF-1?

Yeah, the HF-1 is not happy with bagels at all. I'd stick with the GS1000 (and now PS1000?) for bagels, as designed. Of course that doesn't mean that GS1000s don't sound good with any other pads - my faves were reverse VWAPs with them.

Jahn, Are you using the HP-1000 exclusively now? It seems like I remember you posting a while back about selling your Lambdas. Any interest in the PS-1000?
I've pre-ordered the HD800 but think I'm going to cancel. I just really like the K-1000 and HP-2, but am also considering keeping the GS-1000 (non "i") since it is now a discontinued phone and considering Grados track record it should go up in value.
The original RS-1 goes for around $1,500 used while the new RS-1 goes for around $450.

I don't mean to be offensive, but the majority of the 8% who lost their jobs probably wouldn't have been in the market for a pair of $1700 headphones, no?
Anyway
Exotic-looking headphone. I just hope the cups won't weight it down too much. The headband looks a little thin. Would've liked to see a full metal frame though, just like in the good ole days.

Just wondering: have the PS1000s shipped yet? I'm just curious to hear more impressions.

Can I ask what you (the peeps who are ordering this headphone) do for a living?
I think I might be in the wrong industry; Hedge Funds just aint paying the Head-Fi related bills anymore...

Wrong. The HPs nearly killed Grado, and it took the SR-60s to bring them back from the brink. The current situation is no different.

I like how some people think they can run the company better than Joseph/John Grado can Hindsight is 20/20, 100% of the time.

Meh, I don't pretend to know all the answers. Whether what you're saying is right or wrong; I was just trying to use my knowledge of general accounting/business practices to speculate the reason for their product timing.
I like to think businesses like Grado are filled with very intelligent and qualified people that know what they're doing when they release a new product. So I was just reasoning it out.
Anyways back on topic...

These look slick but I'd still be hard pressed to choose between the wood and metal. I'll be very interested to hear more reviews once peeps start receiving theirs and posting their thoughts. Regardless of opinion, I think my dream job at this stage would still be working for the likes of Grado. I love small family owned businesses, especially ones involved in audio, and I'm sure Grado isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

That's why the PS-1000 was created. You don't have to choose now. It is a metal/wood hybrid after all.

The cost of manufacturing the HP1000's was essentially what almost partially drove in grado. Joe only had the HP2's listed at $495, and at the time, there wasn't such a huge demand for a headphone, only the studio guys and the occasional audiophile. Considering the cost of the metal, hand labor from John personally on each and every one, drivers, parts, etc., + misc. costs associated, it is hard to see how they made any money at all on the headphone, if any. That $495 was store retail, so who knows what the actual cost to dealers were. If there were any margins at all, they would be very minimal.
