Do the flat pads change the presentation in some way?

That's one of my major gripes with Grado's, is that they seem to project the sound between my ears too much.

You bet they do number9,

The Grados's become less bright, more bass, and more intimate, especially with female vocals.

Best wishes,

Paul.

I hope you are NOT talking about the vwap flat pads that go for $15.00 in these parts because between the Grado Flats and the vwap flats - I pick the vwap flats anyday.

The Grado Flats improve the bass energy at the cost of the high end which makes the grado SR-225 and 325 sound muddy. The vwap on the other hand leave the highs where they should be and improve the lower end into a tight controlled bass which goes rather deep in comparison with comfies and bowls.

I rate the vwap flats higher than the grado flats...

Honestly, I'm with gsferrari on this one. I'd take reverse bowls (my favorite) or vwap (aka modded senn) pads over the flats anyday. We seem to be a minority around here but I think the lesson is that don't assume that the flat pads will necessarily be the best for you. But for those who love flats Cheers--what ever floats your boat.

I dont mean to thread crap, or disrespect Todd in anyway since he sells the flats & this is his forum, but I agree with gsferrari & patrick hat with choosing the vwap over the flats. I think they both sound somewhat the same, but the vwap pads doesnt feel like sandpaper to my ears

Funny how everyone experiences things differntely--I think the flat pads are the best for comfort but the absolute worst for sound. I hate what they do to the bass, the highs, the tonal character of the midrange and the transparency but I think they are comfortable as all heck compared to the modded senns or reversed/regular bowls.

Anyway most people love the sound of the flat pads so make sure to try them--along with all of the other pad combinations--no matter which Grados you own.

Hey Todd,
How much would shipping be to Denmark? $10 as well? Do you also have the hd414 unmoded pads?
Cheers,
Rasmus

I like the Flat pads for the bass energy they allow the grados to generate. Good for certain kinds of music.

I like the vwap pads for anything that is not pop/hip-hop/rap and bass heavy music...

I have all possible pads...bowls, grado flats, vwap flats, sennheiser pads, comfies...

Everything finds a use in my setup. Each has its plus and minus...

Mpemba Effect,

Glad you like your Flats from Todd, I also bought 2 pairs from Todd for my RS-1's and 225's, they do make a big improvement, and are worth their price for the sound improvements.

Best wishes,

Paul
