UK Meet (UPDATED!) - Saturday November 7th 2009
Hi guys.
Thanks to the great level of interest, this is shaping up to be a superb meet!
------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT GUIDELINES
-- Please bring along enough power sockets to cover your rig, and an extension lead if possible. Assume you'll have one socket provided. if you have any extras & have the space, please do bring along additional spare power blocks & extension leads in case others don't bring enough.
-- Please read the MEET ETIQUETTE GUIDELINES. Let's ensure everyone's gear finishes the day in the same condition as it started.
-- Due to increasing numbers, it's been agreed that only Head-Fi members who express their intention of attending on this thread, will be admitted on the day. We'll have a entry/exit presence on the day to check people into the meet. For brand new Headfi members, registering just for the meet, please send me a PM once you're registered on the forum with your intention to attend so I can ascertain an identity. As I'm sure you'll understand, with a meet of this type, we do have to be cautious.
------------------------------------------------------------
We have a sponsor!
Head-Fi forum sponsor HiFi Headphones have offered to attend and sponsor the meet! I've spoken with Shaun of HiFi Headphones and he's really enthusiastic about taking part, and will bring along a selection of their products for us to play with. Shaun has generously offered to pay the conference room booking fee, essentially making this meet free of charge for the rest of us.
Date
Saturday 7th November 2009, 9am to midnight (we can access the room as early as we like on the Sat morning to set up).
Depending on how the day goes & how much time exhibitors feel they have had to mingle, we may close the doors at 5 or 6pm so that just those bringing kit can enjoy a relaxed evening without worrying about watching their table like a hawk. We can play this by ear on the day.
Venue
Days hotel, Manchester (close to Manchester Piccadilly train station)
I've booked the conference rooms Weston Room II and III for Saturday Nov 7th, 9am to midnight, at a cost of £200 (our sponsor is kindly covering the cost of the room). The rooms are adjacent to each other, with a small sofa/coffee area in between, essentially making it one large suite. Tables will be arranged around the edges of the rooms, with lots of space in the middle for moving around. Tea, coffee & biscuits will be provided at approx 11am. Outside of that, the hotel has a bar just down the corridor for beer/wine/tea/coffee/snacks etc. The room will be available to us pretty much as early as we want it on Saturday morning to setup. A few particularly keen members (including me :-) will be in there early to ensure everything is set up correctly. Some of us are planning on staying over at the hotel on Friday and/or Saturday night. The hotel is now fully booked for Saturday night but there are loads of other hotels in Manchester city centre. One worth trying for starters would be the Ibis, just around the corner from the Days Inn.

Hotel room rates.
A double room for the saturday night with a book early discount of 25% is £54.
Me feels a night out in manchester!!!
They offer discounts for bookings over 9 rooms - any feedback on any more discounts with using there room?
Has this meet been posted on DIYaudio or Headwize?
John

Hi John, yeah the rooms are pretty good value it seems. I'm expecting an email from them on Monday with room prices for us, though frankly I'm not expecting anything much cheaper than their current early book deals. I haven't yet posted this anywhere else. If you're registered on the other forums, feel free to spread the word. I've been hanging around the AVForums for quite a long time & will start a thread over there soon. Cheers.

I'm very intested in this, I've only just recently got into the higher end of headphones.
I'm local so I won't need a room at the hotel.
I can bring my HD600 w/ Oehlbach cable and my Millet Hybrid MiniMax (boutique), it's possible that I'll have a DacMagic by then so I'll bring that along if I do.

Well obviously it wouldn't be the same without you and your marvellous head-fi bling . On a personal note, I've never heard the 02 or the K1000 and am dying to hear what all the fuss is about!

I'll most likely be coming, but I just need to make sure my calendar is clear and work out if I have the savings to do this. I'm planning on bringing:
- Cambridge Audio Azur 740C
- Creek OBH-21SE (though really I should be selling it for funding this)
- Graham Slee Solo SRG (i.e. the newest version)
- Sennheiser HD497 (in use by the family, but I'll get them to use the Sony headphones lying around)
- AKG K518DJ
- AKG K240 Sextett LP (maybe "refurbished" and recabled by then if I get my arse in gear)
- AKG K601
