I fly regularly overseas and wouldn't be w/out my Shure E500s. So many other people wear Bose QC2 & 3, I would hope just for the noise canceling. Anyway, I have the microphone add-on but it just doesn't work that well for me, and just adds to the cords.
The one thing I like about the Bose (or any full-size headphones) is that if the flight attendant asks you something (or anyone else for that matter), it's easy to just move them to the back of your neck while talking then put them back over your ears.
With my Shures, I have to individually take them out of each ear and then replace them after you're finished, pain in the you know what.
I wish I could have some kind of headband with the E500s at each end to just drop them on the back of your neck when needed. Is there such a thing?
Also, it seems that over time (I've had them for about 6 months), the cords get very stiff, I do wrap them around each ear, and they sometimes take on that shape. I don't remember them being so stiff when they were new. Could it be from perspiration (I live in south Florida so they're never exposed to cold temps).
Just curious, if anyone can help I do appreciate it, thanks to you guys, I discovered the Shures and what a difference it's made on those 7 to 10 hour flights, business class OR coach. Thanks again.
I have ER6i's and often route them over the ears and behind the neck. If I have to take one out for a minute, I just let it dangle in front. I am frequently guilty of removing only one earpiece if someone is interrupting me. I usually listen at a fairly low volume so leaving one earpiece in isn't much of an issue. Still it takes time to remove and replace (vice on or over the ear headphone).
Perspiration, I doubt it. I live in Georgia and have been known to sweat. My Etys do double duty keeping me entertained and as noise reducers when I mow the lawn. I have not experienced any cord stiffening but if you think it might be caused by sweat you could take a damp washcloth, clamp the cord gently and pull thru several times. I can't imagine that would hurt the cord in any way.
