Default Question about Power Cords

I think I will be getting a PS audio Power Director 3.5 soon. It is basically an uber-expensive surge protector/line conditioner. It has a detachable cable. Will having regular power cords defeat the purpose of having a nice cord going from the wall into the power director? What I am asking is do you need multiple quality power cords in the chain to have any benefits? Hope I made sense, Thanks

Brian

I would think that if you are going to the trouble of buying a nice power conditioner then your power cords should be a step up from the usual 18/3 computer cords that come with most equipment. PSAudio just released it's punch power cable (12 gauge) for $49 bux, so if money is an issue that would be a great place to start. You can also throw together a 10/3 Carol PC w/Marinco or Wattgate connectors for about that much. Also consider switching out your wall recepticle. FWIW Hubbell makes some nice ones.

Yeah I was thinking of a power port too. So I guess I would need 2 powercords, one for the conditioner and one for the amp to maximize performance. Thanks for the links I will check them out.

I made a test with the PS Audio Ultimate Outlet and stock power cords and then switched to aftermarket cords. I think the Power Director and the UO do about the same, except that there are three(?) independant cleaning units and more outputs on the Power Director.
There was an improvement with UO and stock cords, and additional improvements with aftermarket cords both between UO and components and between the UO and the wall. So the benefits added up and there should be nothing wring by starting with the Power Director. But you get more by adding aftermarket power cords.

I was just thinking that the Rat Shack power cord ($6) on my Prehead looks dinky. I saw this thread and ended up ordering the PSAudio punch power cable just now -- $65 for 2M. Thanks!
