PS300 Question & General PS question
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has any idea on how the power consumption of the Pathos Twin Towers Integrated Amp is? It says on the Pathos Acoustic website that the power consumption at rest is 240 watts. I was thinking of purchasing a PS Audio P300 power supply which produces 300W max. I will be using this with a Cary CD301 cd player which consumes 48 watts. Do you think the P300 would be sufficient in this scenario or I would need more overhead?
Also I was thinking of getting some TODD brand Step-down transformers as I will be leaving Canada for Singapore soon and will be bringing a good number of my equipment back with me. Any idea how a step-down transformer like this would alter the sound? They have this transformer that allows different power cords to be changed, would this affect the sound if I use a high quality power cord
Any advise given would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jason

I have a P300 and had been planning on hooking up a pair of 25 wpc tube monoblocks, along with a tube preamp and a solid-state phono stage (at the time). Even though the total voltage of the P300 stated ~220 watts and it didn't shutdown from voltage overload, the dynamics seemed to be severely compressed. Amplifiers, at least tube amps, seem to need a lot of overhead when connected to the P300 to sound right. I'm using a PS Audio Ulitimate Outlet for the tube monoblocks now, seems to work well. The P300 will do wonders for your frontend gear though.

I have a p300 and I dont think there is any way you could use that amp and cd player combo, it just wont handle that much current draw. I have had several components with low current draw connected without trouble. However, I tried my monarchy amp which draws 210 watts continuously and it shut down. The current draw at turn on will probably trigger the units protection circuits.

I think you better get the P600. The P300 is mostly made to run your front end on. (source and pre-amp)

Hi Guys,
Thanks, that was what I thought. Anyways, how about using the step-down transfomers? How much would a external step-down transfomer affect the sound?
Thanks
Jason
