m+k speakers

anyone have an opinion on them?? I'm not looking to buy them, I already own a 5.1 set, I'm just wondering what other peoples opinions of them are. how do they stack up against other moderately priced speaker packages as far as sound quality and price etc.....??

that would be the mps-2510p:

this is the powered version. powered version have many advantages over passive designs... but of course, you can't use your favorite amplifier then. there is also a mps-2510, which is passive. you'll also need the mps-5310... their subwoofer for rooms around 3500 square feet.

most professional studios, including places like Skywalker Sound, use 5 identical speakers for all 5 channels... as you can see in this picture:

but in M & K also makes speakers for home audio use, including a center channel to go on top of TVs.

...m & k also makes stands specific to use for their speakers, but they aren't required.

but if you want to hear what your film engineers heard while mixing Starwars... you gotta get 5 of the mps-2510p's and i think 2 (not sure... but i think they usually use 2 of these subs... call m & k up to make sure) of the mps-5310's.... and it'll save you money on amps, cause they're all active designs.

...but it looks like for the surrounds, they're using the smaller m & k speakers. and they are only using one sub.

so, it's up to you. no matter the configuration you use... i'd be really jealous.

oh... and though these speakers were originally intended for 5.1 systems... they'd still make badass stereo speakers. you can use this system for both your movies and music.... and it'll still blow most systems away.

yeah, my friend's parents just built a house with a sweet home theatre in it, and they use the MPS-2510P's for it. They sound sweet. The eagles DVD on that setup is so rad. I highly recommend the M and K speakers.

M&K are great for HT use. One of my colleagues has a home theater made of M&K speakers all around. Very Satisfying. I have no idea what models he owns, though I do remember him having 2 subs.

My father's home theater system, which I helped pick out, uses M&K speakers. I think it sounds fantastic, much better than my KEFs.

According to the B&W website Skywalker Sound now uses B&W 802s as monitors.

hmm... that's interesting... to use the b&w speakers. i knew in a lot of mastering houses they like the b&w's or those.... hmm, forgot that other one. but this is the first time i've seen them for a mixing room. and the grills were on in the picture!... very interesting. i've never seen grills installed on any mixing monitor, no matter the brand.

but m&k's are still the world standard for surround sound mixing.

qwerty- hey, would you know how they hook the 802's up?--i mean, do they still bother with a separate subwoofer? i would think they do, cause it would be best to monitor all channels of the 5.1 format..... but the 802's are full-range....... so perhaps they do away with the subs anyway.

...heh he, not like i could ever get 5 channels of nautilus 802's anyway, even if i wanted to. anyone got a 5.1 system of nautilus's?--i'd love to come over.
