OK. I'm a noob caught in the turbulence of this insightful discussion. I just want a decent, inexpensive cable to hook my amp to my ipod. Not in the market for audiophile, high-end, cryogenic, precious metal....you get the point. It would be even better if I could support a local member with a purchase. Thanks.

Love that phrase: "caught in the turbulence of this insightful discussion." Great stuff.

Have you considered forum sponsor Whiplash Audio? They have one for $35 that looks pretty nice.

http://www.whiplashaudio.com/index.p...opper-lod.html

There are also quite a few DIY guys on the forum who will make you one. Lil' Knight seems to do some good work from comments I have read, and there others also. Some of these guys could probably hit whatever price range you want (within reason).

Thanks...good stuff here

I asked about Whiplash in post # 36 on page 4. Will investigate some more. Another alternative I just found is below, then just add a mini to mini connector of the length required for the application.

I'd tend to prefer one LOD/cable, figuring the less plug-in connections, the fewer things that can disconnect accidentaly, the better the fit, etc. OTOH, if you go with a dock and a mini-mini, you have a mini-mini to use in other applications.

Anyway, I just purchased a LOD from Whiplash, but won't have it until later this week or next week.

Once the LOD I made busted after a winter of hard use, I bought and enjoyed one from whiplash. Works just fine, and the price is right.

If you have unlimited funds, it really makes no difference what you spend your money on, however if you do not, your resources are better spent on the headphones than the LOD.

Quality LODs are $15 including shipping. Search the bay for the seller wemakeamp.

No other commercial operation with a website, no. There are many DIYers on these boards who can make you one, though.

i ordered my LOD from StevenKelby just about this time last year. it is still terrific and i am probably gonna order another one from him. my LOD cost was around $100 but the price of a similar LOD on ALO was around $200 so i didn't mind forking over the $100

I picked my last LOD from Qusp. He is a great guy to deal with and will make anything you want for a great price. He made a copper and silver Lod. The silver was encased in silk to tame the shrillness and the copper adds better low end. I paid 85.00 and love it.

How does silk tame the shrillness of silver?

Don't know, but I am working on that. Just now had a chance to listen to the LOD. It does sound quite different than my bling bling, so I guess it is not soo bad. Some believe in it some don't. Some swear they can hear a difference. Only time with me will tell.

"in this case I think they are used as a dielectric" Is what I was told. Still trying to research it ad learn from experience.

Edit : That was not the point of my post. It was he could get anything he wanted made from him for a good price.

I made a go for ALO SS RCA to RCA & a Zebra Wood Fidelity iPod Docking Station today. The current setup via connection of ALO Femal Mini Dock and CablePro Panorama Mini to RCA kinda sensitive to movements although it sounds good when it is static.
