How do I drive BA HD5's from my computer on the cheap?
I just bought a used pair of Boston Acoustics HD5 's and would like to use them with my computer. I'm not interested in purchasing yet-another giant reciever. I am also not very concerned about "audio-quality" as I've got plenty of that downstairs. I simply want to get rid of the crappy junk speakers I have now.
So, I'm looking for something small that can play them at lower-levels with a respectable lower register Any suggestions?
As an experiment, I was considering the idea of using my old Radio Shack 10-band EQ as a "amp". I'm thinking I can run a y-cable from my sound card to the <Monitor In> jacks and wire the speakers to the <Monitor Out> jacks. Will this work? I can't remember exactly, but I think the EQ puts out something like 50 watts, but I am not sure. Is it worth my time? (15 minutes)
at lower levels it really should power it fine.. the way i look at it is the scythe is just a t-amp but with a way better enclosure, banana plug, etc, because im sure its being made in way higher quantities than the sonic impact.
I'll definitely keep the Scythe in mind. I do have a chance to snag a 60 watt Yamaha RX-550 receiver for $25. At that price I can make a little room, ya' know?

if you do end up buying it, post a mini review, would definitely be interested in hearing your thoughts on a relatively unknown product
