Would there be any significant audio differences between a LOD to mini cable versus a female LOD mini dock (ej. Female mini dock ) and using a mini to mini cable?
i've experienced no difference between them. the difference would be very minimal if there's any.
i've been using a female dock along with my diy mini-mini cable but it's just too bulky(?) because of the combined length of the dock and the mini plug. so i placed an order for a LOD.
I see...
Well I was thinking of using the female mini dock and getting a mini to mini with 90 degree plugs on one or both ends. I'd figure that would save a lot of space.

To me those female docks and mini mini setups take up a lot of room. You have to account for the dock first, and then the length of the mini right angle plug sitting in the dock. Check out the LOW profile LOD in the first portable rig of my sig. That is saving room!
I use a (cheap) female + mini to mini when i use my Ipod Nano g2 8gb in the car. When I head-fi the same Ipod through my ALO Cryo LOD I get a more expansive, transparent, full range presentation. I have tested the female/mini to mini in place of the ALO in my head-fi combo and the difference is noticeable. Of course the cable in the ALO Cryo 'should' achieve this, the signal path is more direct and it seems many of the cheaper females/LOD carry all of the original pins but i do not know whether this may be significant consideration or not?

Wow filipelli you weren't lying when you said "LOW" profile. Did you buy it or Diy? And Where might i be able to get one, looks tempting.

See me working on Americas Port on Discovery channel.
The thing I wonder about hose docks with the mini hole, is how much stress it puts on the device itself. I mean you not only have the added leverage of a dock, but the length of a mini connector on top of it. Kinda the same principle as using a 1/4-1/8 adapter instead of a dongle...
As for the change in SQ...no. If there is, it's probably only audible to bats, lol.

mr_baseball: I guess times have changed and Head-fiers are getting laid like champs now. (Except I seriously doubt that's the case given all the anime and computer related threads around here..)

Use a 90degree to 90 degree if you are using a dongle. That way you can loop it like filipelli's solution with a slight twist inwards to make a u shape on its side.
Thats my current setup with an iaudio m3 --> dock --> cardas mini mini right angle --> amp.
It is very neat. However, after time any protrusion from the player is going to get slightly stressed and possibly bent. Not from cable, just from jostling around.
There is more stress on the wire than the female dock if you use a right angle plug.
