Default Copper/silver hybrid cables?

Is it true silver conducts sounds faster... wouldn't that mean that part of the signal would arrive at the amp first, and the other part would lag behind?

Not if the copper is turbo charged. LOL. You have a point though. I wonder myself.

It might, but I believe you are talking about microseconds of lag which your ears could not detect.

isn't this what's termed as "Skin Effect" or is that something else?

the "theory" is you get the apparent speed and top octave detail of silver and the smooth relaxed sound of copper. All it is to me is a gimmick or a case of someone wanting the best of both but unable to decide what they really want so it is a comprimise.

Anyone here actually know what this "silver over copper" is ?

your basic off the shelf wire wrap wire !!!!

Thats right.

Nothing fancy and available at your local Radio Shack for evaluation.

I like solid copper wire for solid state gear (#22 magnet wire) and silver for tube gear.

As usual, this is only a personal opinion and YMMV so don't get all snarled up if you have a preference for the "Kynar"

So does this mean there IS a difference in sound between copper and silver-plated copper? Or there isn't?

yes, there IS a difference in wire but only when the length is long or there are many connections (such as in a hardwired amp) OR if your system has the resolving power to even notice. And that is the rub .Many that claim not to hear any differance between two things just don't have a systerm capable of portraying the difference so they do not hear it.

Now if you ask me what sounds better i can not answer you.Everything must be listened to in the context of the system with the music software choices and taste of the listener included in the equation

I totally agree...if your front end and the rest of your system doesnt have the resolving power to really let all the details shine through with resolution to boot, you are not going to hear much of a difference if any at all. A good case is my jolida 100a, generic rca's sound just as good as my mit's, but i know that the jolida is more a smooth musical player rather than known for its resolving power, its made NOT to be real picky with interconnects.

Now, I've got a meridian G07 coming in real soon, and i figured what the heck, lets get some nordost cables and see whats up, and if not, no biggy, a big part of this audio hobby really is experimenting and using your ears as the final scientific tool in assessing our sound
