although the madisound, speaker centre etc kits look great, not really applicable for uk (delivery is more than the kit). any idea if there a similar one for uk? the only ones i found are the IPL ones: IPL AVC1 SHIELDED CENTRE SPEAKER
which come in about 160 ish pounds including the delivery and cabinet. also, the wilmslow audio, but i didnt really find anyhting interesting there.
Those kits use the Peerless of India (different from the Scandinavian peerless) SK-130 woofer, which is worth maybe $30 at most, and the TN25, a really awful $8 tweeter.
Somehow we've gone from 50 to 100 to 160 in budget. While we're at it, let's go to a Etona IV. Ribbon, Eton woofer, what do you want more?
Fact is, in your original budget it was hard to squeeze 4 decent drivers in, with money left to get the parts needed to filter them. As apparently the budget is expanding, I suggest taking a look at better kits. Also, it's perhaps a better idea to look with more detail into what you exactly want, and what you want it for.
i know, so lets try and riegn it back. what kit, which i guess will have to be a single. upon reading the recommendations for the CT kits, i researched them, and the following seem to be the best contenders: CT227 CT222 CT209
What is a good cheap driver to do a Voight Pipe with? If I made two of these would they sound good from any position on a fairly big couch? (how small is the "sweet spot")

The sweet spot on many full-range drivers is rather small.
However, you could build a Voight pipe using a separate woofer and tweeter.
I built a folded Voight pipe years ago with a Pioneer B20FU20-51. With toe in you could get a bit more spread. The speakers are long gone but they were pretty great for the price.

Try Fostex drivers - you can find them at Madisound. They do have a narrower sweet spot, but if you're going to be in one place for critical listening, it's not the end of the world.

I'd go for the 209, provided you're willing to build a sub later on.
