i was hoping not to have full range, from what i gather the sq is not as good as a horn and tweeter combo. or is that wrong? also, it there a way to make the cases yourself, or buy them cheap. im not looking for anything flashy, just a nice simple case, that i can veneer myself. the ct222 seems nice, but again, full range.
It's not quite that simple. If you have multiple drivers, you have to accept a raft of compromises with any crossover. Further, you get phasing differences with more than one driver. You have to accept compromises with every design.
There are strong benefits to singledrivers. For one, almost every headphone is a singledriver, so if you like the coherency of headphones, they're a good way to go.
Another benefit is that singledrivers are often very efficient. You can get away with fleawatt SET amps and inexpensively drive them with pure class A amps.
Still another benefit is that the cabinets are very simple. They're generally inexpensive to build, too.

the voigt pipe design looks interesting, but way to big for me. so, which do you suggest for me, full range or multiple. i will be using them on my computer, and so they will be quite near to me most of the time. although i like the headphone sound, but i would like to hear something different. again, price is an issue, as i am saving up for uni, so do not really want to splurge. to me full look like more in my price bracket, but the multiple seem to offer a more fun sound.

Single-driver speakers have many advantages. They're cheap to build, and because they have no crossover, are much easier to design than their multi-driver counterparts. Furthermore, they're generally very efficient and have a flat impedance curve, allowing the use of tube amplifiers.
There are, however, many downsides. Fullrange drivers generally have far higher distortion and energy storage than comparably priced woofers and tweeters, and suffer severely from "beaming" - the treble is completely useless unless you're sitting directly in front of the speaker.
I would recommend building Zaph's SR-71 or L18 & 27TBFC/G 2-way speakers - they're reasonably simple, the parts don't cost too much, and their popularity means that many people can help you if you run into trouble. However, if you're ordering from the U.S, the Modula MT is even more popular than both of them put together, uses cheaper house-brand parts, and is generally regarded to sound excellent.
Alternately, try a pair of Behringer 2030Ps. I've yet to hear a pair myself, but the measurements - +/- under 2 dB from 50hz to 18khz and low distortion - are stupendous. They're only $130 a pair, and while they're not perfect, they do offer very good value for money.

Parts Express, Madisound and Speaker City, have some kits available, and some info as well....

although the madisound, speaker centre etc kits look great, not really applicable for uk (delivery is more than the kit). any idea if there a similar one for uk? the only ones i found are the IPL ones: IPL AVC1 SHIELDED CENTRE SPEAKER
which come in about 160 ish pounds including the delivery and cabinet. also, the wilmslow audio, but i didnt really find anyhting interesting there.
Somehow we've gone from 50 to 100 to 160 in budget. While we're at it, let's go to a Etona IV. Ribbon, Eton woofer, what do you want more?
Fact is, in your original budget it was hard to squeeze 4 decent drivers in, with money left to get the parts needed to filter them. As apparently the budget is expanding, I suggest taking a look at better kits. Also, it's perhaps a better idea to look with more detail into what you exactly want, and what you want it for.
