I don't disagree. You could take B&W's own bookshelf speaker (say a pair of 686 and any $150 integrated amp and have a better sounding system)

I think it's still pretty cool though. Almost all iPod speaker docks sound like crap, so it's refreshing to somebody do one right. There are other speaker makers (some pretty reputable) that have tried making iPod dockable speaker systems (Altec, Klipsch, Monitor Audio, Acoustic Energy, Bose, Mirage) that aren't nearly as good.

If I didn't have speakers in every room that I need one, I would consider buying one of these.

When I tried it in-store, I was disappointed with the sound.

I think the Apple HiFi speaker sounds much better - in a "fill the room with music" kind of way. Neither are particularly high fidelity mind you.

Looks really nice.
B&W are one of my favorite speaker vendors. So going to check these out next time I drop by the local dealer.

I would say the best sounding iPod dock. Solidly built (if you do have problems, take back to you dealer). Where i work, the first day they were out we sold out by noon and we had about 12 of them. Compared to the tannoy, or a Tivoli i would say it has much better sound and better bass that any other option.

I have one. It sounds great in my bedroom. It's not just an iPod dock, as it has line in and a Toslink optical input as well. At MacWorld 2008, quite a few stands were using Zeppelins as their demo sound systems.

Clearly you are paying for the design, build quality and convenience. It is a lifestyle system first and foremost, but it also has competent sound. You'd have to pay at least 50% more to get a better integrated iPod system (for a Geneva Labs model L).
