Question Aphex Aural Exciter 204: Faulty Knob on My eBay-bought Unit is Causing Trouble...Please Help Me to Fix It?

Hello!

This has been a problem since I got the thing, however I didn't really put all the pieces together and realize it until just this moment.

I was always concerned about the grainy, rough sensation when turning the "Big Bottom Drive" knob, but thought it an issue completely seperate from the essential functioning of the unit. However, I've now noticed, after playing with the settings for different tracks, that there is a BIG segment of the knob's range that effectively shuts it down...meaning, I suppose, that the tracking for the knob's adjustments must be way off, because this segment is towards the higher end of its range. Additionally, settings much lower than this range seem actually to result in a HIGHER output...

So apparently the knob is all buggaboo, and the unit is reading the wrong settings from it as a result. Is there anyone who has experience with this model who can tell me whether there is anything I can do to fix it myself, so as to avoid the expense of shipping and paying Aphex to do it?

Thank you very much!

That sucks.I'm no technician so I have no advice to give but good luck.

...so does only one channel have this problem? Have you contacted Aphex to get an idea for a repair?

No, I hadn't contacted them yet! I was waiting to see if anyone here had any ideas...but I guess that was a longshot. Anyway, thanks for replying!

Yes, it's only the one channel...and I can get the two channels to hold the same drive setting, but only at certain portions of the knob's setting. If I press in the knob as I turn it, I can sometimes get it to work briefly within the "problem zone", but shortly after releasing the knob from my fingers, it will cut out again.

There must be a contact loose in there...

Anyway, I'll email Aphex tomorrow/later today. Thanks again, bye!!!
