Question:
Is it possible to buy an 80gb iPod, convert it to a 32gb flash iPod, then could you fit the caps in the case, versus having the caps in the dock connector?
yeah and maybe drill a hole in the ipod to put a female mini for the line out connection for those of us that only has mini to mini cables.

One good thing about music is that, when it hits you, you feel no pain.

I think so. That seems like a good idea. I may give this a try in the future!
This topic needs a long awaited bump. Lol. I just got myself a new iPod 30GB 5.5G. Without hesitation, opened it up, changed the battery and installed the CF Adapter from Tarkan and using a 150x Samsung 32GB CF Card purchased on eBay.
Using the latest rockbox in it, no problems whatsoever aside from the dead battery icon, but nothing a soft reset can't fix.
