Wow. Doesn't it feel so much lighter? I know compared to the ipod classic 6G, the 5G feels a lot heavier even though it's a small difference.

Scott:

Will this adapter work with a 4g ipod? I have a ipod photo 30gb with a bad HDD lying around, and I think this would be just the thing to get it working again.

Does the CF card sit flat? It looks like the end connected to the ZIF socket is higher up. Will that put undue strain on the connectors? Also, what keeps the ZIF connector (and CF card) from moving around since there is now so much more open room in the ipod case? Thanks.

Joe

Great work, I admit I'm a little jealous. I would rather DIY iMod this though because I really value Vinnie's lifetime warranty on the RWA iMod. Seriously, this should be something Vinnie offers for the 30 GB iMods, it could be more popular then the 80 GB soon.

this is the very first thing i am doing when i can buy 64GB CF, downgrading my 80GB iMod to 64GB via that flash adapter, then skys the limit once the CF format becomes larger in the future.

lurvly.

good job. nice modification candy there!

Hey, Joe-

I'm afraid not. The guy developed solely for the 5th gen iPods. There are however, adapters sold on eBay that I think work with 4th gens. Just don't hold me to it.

The adapter was very well laid out. The CF sits absolutely flat on the adapter and there is no strain whatsoever on the flat cable from the iPod. It really is an impressive bit of work. As for the adapter moving around: He put little rubber bumpers which do a terrific job in holding the adapter against the sides of the case. Perfect fit.

I really wish I could take all the credit for this but the adapter does all the work and makes this a piece of cake mod. I just had to foot the bills. I hear you though. I plan on holding onto this iMod for a very long time with the inevitable high capacity CFs in the future.

I am glad I reread this thread or I would have missed the lack of 4th gen support. Good to know. Now what will I do with that new iPod Photo I just bought?

Ahh so tempting!

I had a dream about a flash based iMod...

I believe these two are the same product, but you can use this adapter to fit CF into your iPod 3G and 4G. I'm not sure how it works in the 1G and 2G, but who uses those anyways? :P

Question:
Is it possible to buy an 80gb iPod, convert it to a 32gb flash iPod, then could you fit the caps in the case, versus having the caps in the dock connector?

I just got my flash imod back (30gb with 32gb flash). Vinnie said he would mod it if I converted it before sending it to him- opening the case voids the redwine warranty.

Anyway, just wanted to report that this is pretty sweet- if a bit expensive. It is quite a bit lighter with the flash drive and during burn in I seem to be getting about 12 hours of lossless battery life (stock 5.5 30g battery). Mind you I am not futzing with it much so very little back light, but pretty impressive. I love the thin, sleek and light 30gb form factor compared to the old 80gb format.
