i find that the dac is more refiend tunign opposed to EQing. I suggest you find an EQ setting you really like and fine tuning it from there. If you are an audippurist then set it flat and tune it so it sounds as realitstic as possible.

Look at this thread: Sony A8xx, 6xx etc. What EQ are you using?
Somewhere in the middle of the page you can find my long post with my custom EQ and some reasons for that. I must say, though, that I've tuned that setup before I tuned the DAC gain through the test menu. So when I tuned the DAC gain, the sound become "smiley"-ish, as both of the ends became boosted much. Its very bright, with nice bass. The mids can be a little bit recessed, though. If you don't like the somewhat recessed mids, try something else.(they are not THAT recessed though)

Man, its Hz, not kHz. Even bats cannot hear 250kHz.
So when you change from 100Hz to 250Hz, bass becomes too fat, loses the punch and definition. Thats because the stock headphones have lower frequency response at 50-100Hz than at 200-250Hz. So you need to boost only the frequencies up to 100Hz. But, for some kinds of music - jazz, ambient, some ballads, you may appreciate the added warmth of the boosted frequencies up to 250Hz. Thats why I fiddle with the EQ and test menu more than I browse the songs.
haha again thank you for corrections. consdierign shure se210's are a little lacking in bass its nice to hear that extra boom. i must say that listening to my a818 brings smiles to my face and perhaps my friends as well. it sounds so clear and coherent tis unlike anything i have ever done. maybe if i get headphones with too much bass i'll tone it down to 100 hz.
anything from the interface to anything the internal chips allow.
I think gapless playback, sound imporvement (or possibly a brand new equalizer), line-out via audio hp jack (maybe), maybe audio deleting (if it doesn't conflict with something else), definitely changing the avls max voulume, ect.
