I'm not used to getting good customer care, very rarely am I treated like the sultan of Umm ba ba baa. Most of the time I'm treated like an annoyance. So, when my nanos screen went out I expected a little run around.
I called customer care and got right through to a tech who informed me that the first batch of nanos had defective screens from the vender. He said my unit would be replaced with a new unit that had a "fixed" screen. The next day I received an express shipping box from apple with a foam egg-crate insert and self sealing bag, it even included packing tape for me to seal the box. I dropped it off at dhl that evening, and the next day I had an email from apple telling me my new nano had shipped!
I received my brand new nano in 3 days total right to my door with express shipping from apple, it was even Saturday delivery. The unit was packaged just like retail with the don't steal music wrapping and screen protector. I know this may not be the "norm" of the quality of their service, but I was so happy I just had to share

Apple is usually ranked #1 in customer service for a reason. A few months ago the Toshiba 80GB 5400 drive failed in my PowerBook. The total elapsed time for DHL to bring the packing box to my door, return to pick up the computer, and then deliver it back to me, was 56 hours. A few weeks later a friend with the identical PB had his Toshiba HDD fail. The total time for him was only 47 hours.
Thats why I like apple, I dont have to go through a pain-in-the-ass RMA process like I did with creative.
Hey, you reminded me of when I had to return a defective cowon (iaudio) unit. I had to get an rma # to return it , it took like a week for them to give me an RMA to send it back. Their stuff still kicks ass though

My 4g Ipod started freezing occasionally when cacheing, the hard disk would clunk and then it would self reboot. Still Under warranty, I took it back to the store I purchased it from, their on site tech assessed it and I had a brand new replacement within 2 days.
excellent service.

One of the reasons I stick with the iPod is I can walk into the Prince St store and talk to a live human being, face to face. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide and no "whoops, we got disconnected.
