Barely. I haven't compared it to my full-sized ipod yet, but I barely notice it. It really doesn't bother me at all. I probably wouldn't even have thought about it if it weren't for the issue being addressed everywhere. I bought the shuffle thinking it would sound bad with my ue-10's because of the hissing, but it is really much better than I expected. It's perfect for working out and as a complimentary ipod, so I love it.

My 80GB iPod has a minor hiss only audible when no music is playing.
