New Portable Rig - With Pictures
Just finished the first stage of putting together my new portable rig. The pieces are:
1. iQube Amplifier
2. Ultrasone Edition 9 (No. 1013)
3. iMod - For Now
4. ALO 22G Cryo iMod Cable
5. Grado 1/4 inch to 1/8 cable adapter
6. 10' Silver Dragon Headphone Cable
7. Furutech FP 704 1/4" interconnect
8. Tamrac Adventure 8 backpack
The iQube just arrived with the Edition 9's so both are in the early, early breaking in stages. This is my third pair of Edition 9's so I realize it will take a while to get the titanium drivers to flex a bit. As for the iQube, I'm very impressed. Very neutral and high resolution. A true technological achievement for class D design. Connections are tight and durable feeling. The high/low gain switch is well paired with the Ultrasone's. I'll provide more details as the rig settles in. In the meantime, here are a (average) pictures. More pics to follow.

impressive... i would be scared to walk around with $3000 in gear in my backpack though

I would call it transportable, if I have to carry that bag, it is not protable at all to me...the main reason I sold my LISAIII, portability and battery life is a most in ap ortable setup.
BTW IIRC Dr. Gilmore used to power an amp for the Stax with a big battery like a motorcycle battery or so, and use to carry it on a big bag, is that qualifies as portable....

A very expensive rig. I wouldn't exactly call it portable either (transportable), though I guess one could argue about semantics here.

Well you can walk around with it own with the amp and source in your pocket. I have done that before with almost the same setup. Oh! it was the same setup with a few different items like the cables and bag.

Yeah, I agree portability is a bit of a debate. And frankly the backpack is a bit of a "man purse" truth be known. I can't keep up with my keys etc. so my wife keeps the backpack thing going. It's worked reasonably well. BTW, I posted it separately because so many people had asked me privately about the iCube. So in some ways, it was a kickoff to more of an overview for my "private message" friends. thanks all.

nice rig, but there is no way i would carry that around in my area. im afraid with my 3 years old H10, and a pair of EX71s.

I really appreciate the kind words. I have to say that I hadn't thought much about the safety factor etc. Perhaps naively I thought the backpack approach might be a bit of a decoy for anyone thinking that there is much of anything of value on board. That said, during the week, I usually take my rig back and forth to work, open and use it at lunch etc if I can, then take it home. I commute in my car. But, I really am getting a bit paranoid. Thanks for the kind words and the advice. Hmmm, some good insight here.
