Default iTunes doesn't like Hail to the Thief?

I did a quick search but didn't find anything, so hopefully this hasn't been covered before. iTunes doesn't seem to recognize Hail to the Thief, and I think it has something to do with the autorun and other file bs on the disc. Anyone have a way to get iTunes to recognize it so I can rip it? Thanks.

As I understand it, Hail To The Thief has copy protection on it. I didn't have a problem however with iTunes (v. 2) in OS 9 or EAC in Windows XP.

I also have both the American and Japanese Limited Edition versions and had no problem ripping with iTunes. I listen to "Hail To The Thief" frequently on my iPod, sounds great! Sorry that you're having problems...

No problems here either. Disable 'autorun' or use a Mac to get around that protection/cripple/

Muggins here bought the 'limited' edition with the fold-out poster. Definitely protected. In fact I think it says somewhere on it that it is. Doesn't have the CD Audio logo. I've not made a serious attempt to rip it, but may give it another go some time. I think I need to do it on a PC that doesn't auto-run CDs or maybe my Linux box.

It may not work for everyone but when I had a problem with copy-protected CDs I bought a cheapo Lite-On CD-ROM drive and it just ignored the copy protection and ripped them anyway.

I just went through this with a new Christopher Lawrence CD. It wouldn't even play in itunes, it was all garbled. Here's what I did:

(Mods if this is frowned upon please delete)

Use the shift key to temporarily disable the autorun feature (or turn it off completely), I then opened EAC and highlighted all the tracks except the "data" track. I then ripped them to mp3 as usual, and imported them into itunes.

Worked fine for me, however YMMV.

This wont help you rip with itunes though, try holding down the shift key when you are putting the cd into the computer, keep the shift key held down for 15-20 seconds, that might work.

I don't even think this could be considered circumventing antipiracy measures, which in my country is totally illegal. I have a copy controlled edition of HTTT. I insert it on my XP PC, with EAC already running. Then I select the music tracks and ignore the data track. How could this be illegal is beyond me.

If it is illegal, I honestly don't give a ****. I have over 500 original CDs and keep on buying them. Instead of hampering regular users, they would have to try better strategies at fighting piracy.

I never had any luck getting a good rip of HTTT. Using EAC, I always get erractic skips (disc is pristine and doesn't have any skips when played on anything other than PC). I have a Canadian version and I can't find a single CD-Audio logo on the case. Also, if I let the autorun go it plays extremely low quality versions (sounds even worse than 64 kbps mp3 )

Check out this thread discussing the copy protection on HTTT.

Just tried to rip my copy with EAC. Got some files, but there's multiple glitches (short pauses) in them. EAC reported something like 'Suspicious location' at those times.

Are there settings I should be changing or do I have to find alternate ways to be able to listen to music I paid for??
