Ipod 5.5g high capacity battery
What is the largest capacity internal battery that is available for the ipod 5.5g (30GB), and are there any preferable makes of battery? I think the one it comes with is 400mAh.

There is a 100 GB Toshiba hard drive available, and a 120 GB drive on the way from Seagate. They only fit the 80 GB sized ipod, but if you don't mind the extra depth you can get the deeper back plate.

By the way, the Seagate drive won't be available until December.

Haha, sorry, I just found something else. Samsung made a 1.8 inch 120 GB drive too, and said it should be available in July!!

He asked about battery!!!!
The biggest one I have found was a 580mah which gives me about 10 hours untouched using apple lossless. Performance would be much better if using compressed.

Isn't he talking about the BATTERY?
Don't know about the stock capacity and the larger capacity the Ipod supports, but 400mha seems very low.
My Iriver H340 cames with a 1300mha stock battery and i replaced it with a Ipod 1st/2nd generation ipod battery with 2200mha. Which is giving a playback time of almost 30 hours ...

Apple batteries have come down is size and mah. I think it is 400 or 500 mah stock.
The earlier models needed more power and thus larger batts.
Either way a 580mah is larger than stock 30gb that I know that for sure.
The 80GB batt is bigger.

Yep.
Just quick googled and realised that the 80GB can be upgraded up to 850mha. The 30GB is 550mha-580mha ...
