iMod w/ volume attenuator?
Yes or no question: can I use an IEM with volume attenuator out of blackgates imod, or will it fry the signal path?
Thanks.

Yes you can but it won't sound good due to the huge impedance mismatch. Will get rolled off bass. Won't hurt anything though.

Thanks steve. Will it be a player-impedance mismatch, or a mismatch involving only the headphones? Hope the question is understandable.

No worries man. I looked into it ages ago and can't remember now! It depends on the output impedance of the imod (which I can't remember) and the input impedance of your cans. The difference depends on where the high pass filter will be, and I can't remember the math either but it will be audible, maybe 100, 200Hz or something.
No headphones will present an appropriate load to the imod output, the imod wants the input to an amp, which is very high impedance.
Probably...

No worries, hope it helped. Vinnie explained it all to me early last year. Wish I could remember the facts but never think about it.

It helps a lot. Do you think you could find any write-ups about the right impedance load? It would come in handy even more.

Sorry I don't really know where to look now and honestly don't have spare time at the moment. You should start a thread asking specific questions about impedance matching, output impedance of an imod or something. There are people here that are much smarter than me!
Maybe Google and searching here would turn up something?
