I don't think you read through all of this. It talks about how it created a life-like sound through a synth. It isn't quite the same thing as a mp3 file.

Didn't say it was an MP3, but it indicates that it will sound exactly like the actual music/performance. If they can reproduce the actual sound of a performance in 10-20k of space, sounds interesting to me.

That's exactly the point, it's not an MP3 file, so there are no compression issues. It's like hearing the real deal, synth or otherwise. Yes, the sound was created inside a computer for now, but nothing says it can't be captured/recreated and distributed in some new, yet known format/platform.

I don't see this as much of a story... the 1kb file doesn't contain the virtual model of the clarinet, just the notes. In the same way a MIDI file is a whole lot smaller than a WAV because the MIDI file relies on a lot more hardware & software in order to play it back.

Virtual models of instruments are nothing new, but it's exciting that their quality is continuing to improve.

With todays storage capacities and prices I don't see the need at all.
...and I can't even image it would sound like.

Is this some sort of joke ? Must be useless with human voices singing along on a track....
