get #, if:

1. like itunes (alternative ipod shuffle database), use for quick on the go player, usb drive, excercise or run. and most especially dont mind not having a screen. very good SQ though

2. great little player, nice screen, must deal with 15 fps video, great d-click system of navigation, much potential in flash lite games and apps. costly for only 512 mb.

3. meh...

4. large for a flash based player, lots of features, also expensive compared to others.

you should really figure out where and how you will be using your player, and then go off from there.

You may want to consider the iriver U10 2GB or "clix" as they have renamed it....its will be available in 1 or 2 weeks apparently.

How important is a color screen and the ability to view pictures or video clips? Do you want that in a flash player? Or is music more of a priority? Where/how will you be using it (commuting, exercising, around the house, etc.)?

What type of battery do you think you would like to have? Some flash players use AAA's, some us AA's, some use built-ins that must be recharged via USB or an adapter. Some hard-drive players have a battery that is removable; some have batteries that aren't designed to be removed by the user.

What's your most important feature? Cost? Size? Screen? Sound quality? Capacity? Microsoft or iTunes compatibility?

Lots to think about ... but it's a fun choice, right? Welcome to Head-Fi.

This used to be a pretty simple question. Not anymore; there are too many variables. More accurately, I suppose there were always many variables, I just didn't know about them until I came to HeadFi

You need to provide more information about your intended use. Is this just for playing mp3 music files (small, low quality audio files that sound o.k. through stock earbuds for exercise, etc.)? If so, then price, battery life, size, and storage capacity are the controlling factors.

If, however, you are looking for something that is more versatile and can be integrated into a more complex system giving better sound quality by upgrading components and using lossless music files rather than mp3 files, then everything changes. Then, you are looking for the highest storage capacity your budget can handle, and the option of digital output is a plus. Size becomes less important.

My girlfriend just got the H10, and I found the sound to be pretty nice, actually...and I tend to be really picky about these sorts of things :P

If you're considering the U10, it may be worth the extra $50 for twice the capacity. It seems like it may be a more fun and versatile unit than the T10, but the T10 may work too. The H10, obviously, gives you the most capacity, but it does use an HD whereas the others are flash, so it probably isn't going to take as well to jarring. I don't care for the sound on the iPod Shuffle at all, so I can't recommend it on that basis, but some people seem to be pretty fond of it.

Edit: Looking up prices, I actually found that the 512MB and 1GB versions of the U10 were often selling for nearly the same price at many retailers (NewEgg had them for 175,99 and 179,99, respectively).

Is the Clix the same as the U10? I'm thinking of getting a U10, but maybe the Clix would be a better choice.

If you want a good 2 gb player get the Clix ($200), otherwise look for a cheap one on ebay (i would adivse to wait a little for prices to go down).

Like mentioned in the other thread, the Clix is the 2gb U10 titled as Clix. There is a UMS 2gb u10 but it will cost about 300 to import from overseas.

Well, I won't use WMP11, and require regular explorer-based access, but I guess MTP can still provide that. Is it possible to get UMS with the 1GB U10 (US)?
