I have a large collection of flac stuff now and I am looking for the easiest way to shoot from one to the other. Any advice much appreciated!

Max allows you to do that, and much more.
Highly recommended open-source (free) audio CD ripper and converter.

Are you using your MBP? If so, you can use Max.
Apple - Downloads - Audio - Max
Preferences > Format > Available output formats > MPEG4 Audio > Encoder Settings > Available data formats > Apple Lossless
Then drag what you want to be converted and press convert. If everything is properly tagged, then you can just leave it on overnight and it'll be organized into folders. If they aren't tagged, you should probably do one album at a time and manually do it, or else it'll end up being like 1000 files titled x - jsdfhjklah that you'll have to organize.

I think DBPowerAmp.
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm
Supports FLAC and ALAC so it makes sense that it would convert between them.

x2 on dbPoweramp. I have just recently converted all my FLAC albums into Apple Lossless for my iPod Touch, very fast and without one single problem. You have to download the different codecs separately on the site.

Depends which OS you run on your PC:
* Mac OS X, then you can use Max.
* MS Windows you can use dBpoweramp.
* GNU/Linux, I really don't know.

For me, I use foobar2000 to transcode the FLAC into WAV, import into iTunes, then transcode into ALAC.

Sounds like a lot of steps!
Thank god the OP (and I) have a PC running Mac OS X, and hence can run Max (and XLD).

Why not convert it directly to ALAC? I also foobar but I'm not sure having to convert two times like that will affect the original sound or not.
