two of my panasonic cd players would not detect the CD, I pop several differnt CDs in, and each time is moves its little lazer on a track thing a bit, thenmoves the lens up and down, and then says "no cd" or whatever on the display... one of htem I dropped int he toilet and the other was dropped a few itmes but it was working last time and i havent dropped it since and it suddenly stopped working when i decided to check up on it again. does nyone know what could be wrong witht hem? is it repairable? i already took all the "guts" out of the casing for fun and it still works as it did, sitll displays "no cd". it doesnt seem completely broken so i was wondering if its fixable...
I have a Sony D-777 that doesn't do anything when I pop in a CD. I turn it on but the disc doesn't spin and 5 seconds later, it automatically turned off. Should I throw it away? I need help.
Hi All, I have a Sony D-777 that doesn't do anything when I pop in a CD. I turn it on but the disc doesn't spin and 5 seconds later, it automatically turned off. Should I throw it away? I need help.
I have a D-311 that is almost doing the same thing. Search this thread, I documented this problem before with my player. I think that it is a faulty laser assembly unit, but I could be wrong. Don't throw the player away, see if you can fix it and then post what you did to get it working here.
Hello Everybody, now for my question:
Is there any other Sony portable CD player that has the same laser assembly pickup as the D-311 player? I could transplant laser assemblies to bring my
D-311 back to life. Or does anybody know where I can purchase the correct laser assembly unit for the D-311 player.
Hi I'm Katia from Portugal
I was looking for something in my bedroom and I came across with my old cd-player, a Sony D-183. It stopped working a few years ago and my friends told me that the repairs on discman's are very expensive and it wasn't worth it. But today I placed the batteries and a cd and it worked for a while!
What happens is that, when I put the CD, it starts to rotate but doesn't start to play. I can change tracks, but the timer doesn't appear on the monitor and I can't hear no sound. but today I could listen to a little bit but then it stopped. the cd keeps moving and, eventually stops.
I would hazard a guess, if you was able to get the unit to play for a few seconds that there is a faulty battery connection on the unit...
...If this also happens with AC power, then maybe one of the power regulators is busted... if so, i'm not sure how easy that would be to fix.

hmm... i see what you mean... thank you for your help! actually I was using it with the AC power, so you're probably right. i think i'm going to take it to a repair shop just to ask if it can be repaired.
I have a new cd player, so that one i don't actually need, but I heard these things break down real easy so it's always nice to have a spare.
It's really stupid because when it broke down it wasn't old, I had it for about 2 or 3 years and I didn't use it that much.
Sony stuff is really expensive and doesn't last much time, that's what I've learned from experience... bye!
so a few days ago i got bored and opened up my discman...i have no clue what model it would be, although it does say "d-e356ck" on the case, if that's any help. when i closed it up it wasn't working anymore--it just plays a bunch of static, sort of. sometimes it'll just play static, sometimes it'll play a few seconds of a song and then play static.
now there wasn't aynthing wrong with it before, so it's pretty clear taht it's my opening the case that broke it. no biggie--i have another, and i haven't been using my cd player since i got my mp3 player--but just because i'm interested, i was wondering if anyone had any idea what i could have borked, and how to fix it?
also, the terminology in this thread is very much teh confusing. i was always under the impression that a pot was somethign one cooked rice or soup in. now it's somethig in a discman? what, specifically?
edit: hrrm...if i turn it at an angle and leave it for a bit, it plays fine, but as soon as i change the angle again it starts to crackle until i find another random angle that works well.
there's this really cool beans sheet of foil stuff underneath the board, what's that? it's got some marks on it that look like oil from fingerprints on them, only not in figerprint pattern
