Default 25 GIGs need ID3 tags?

Can someone recommend a good, reliable ID3 tag editor? I have ~25G worth of MP3 tunes that all need ID3 tags. Hopefully there is one that is easy to use, requires minimal system resources, and does not clutter my PC with whordes (spelled intentionally) of background/lingering applications.

I tried a free one called FixTunes and it deleted about 10G of my files. So it went into the dumpster, fortunately I have all my tunes backed up.

FWIW, this is for a 4-Gig Sansa Clip... so the tags need to be recognized by this DAP.

thanks in advance!!

Oooh. With Fixtunes, make sure you set it exactly how you want it.
Don't just hope it'll fix everything without misinterpreting the songs.
I had that problem too, but now I only do certain groups of songs; such as those with 80%+ accuracy.

If you need to identify and tag your tunes, use Musicbrainz, its fantastic, I tagged 2,000 CD's using this puppy.

Ditto that!! Holy cow what a mess, it "re-re-did" just about everything.... File names as well as ID3 tags, frequently double imposing the file name on top of the ID3 tags and vise-versa. Definitely not for noobs. Took me ~three hours just to undo everything and get it all right. I am using MP3tag and going through file by file.... ARGH. At least I am almost done.

I'll stay away from any mass tagging software like fixtunes if I were you, you usually need to spend more time fixing the mess they make. I am still yet to find a tagging software that can make me completely satisfied, most of them have some sort of weakness that will annoy you to no end, especially when it comes to album art. The best is probably mediamonkey, it can tag most files with ease and immediately, but it doesn't tag genres well and I am sick and tired of seeing my metal songs being tagged as rock. MP3tag works too but is not as hassle-free as mediamonkey.

media monkey can tag files, from where they are in your directory and the file name.

Personally I'd tag the genre, artist and albums this way first. Then start tagging the tracks after that. MediaMonkey can tag tracks from the web. Just accept you're not going to be able to mass tag all the track names in one go. Thats just asking for trouble. Its probably going to take a weeks if not months to do all your music.

Of course you need to make a backup before you start.

Personally I prefer mediamonkey v2 than mediamonkey v3

You can get rockbox, use folder navigation and avoid all tagging!.

Problem with iTunes is tracks with no tags don't appear in itunes, and also it installs services which always run. I use it every now and then when I'm installing an iPod and think its ok. But its a very limited application compared to something like MediaMonkey. When taking about tags.
