Yeah, it will most definitely sell out pretty quick. I was very tempted to pick one up myself but anything less than 30GB is useless for me so I'm passing this one up.

If you guys really want one, buy.com is still selling it for 297.99 + shipping. You can use google checkout and get $10 off of that. Also, apple has them for $329 refurb which comes with a year of warraty.

Wow...80gb??? Do you guys really listen that long before ever getting to a computer to switch out? Or is it just a convenience thing? I can get by on 4 gig....2 gig if I used 192kbs....

Thing is that if you have small storage, you have to swap out the files all the time if you feel like listening to different music. Sometimes, I would feel like listening to some classical or Rock or jazz, etc. etc. but don't know what exactly so I browse thru the album lists and play whatever I like at the moment. Since I can't carry my computer with me everywhere, I have to have at least some of my library in my ipod because I just don't know what I'd want to hear beforehand.
Oh, and I encode all my classical albums in lossless format so it gets filled pretty quick.

Personally, I have a 16GB iPod Touch and it is plenty for the music I listen to on a daily basis.
My online library has ~4000 songs.
My sync playlist is a smart playlist that automatically loads my top 1800 at the time. I also made a smart playlist for my new music and have a few other playlists for other things ( classical, Oldies-Ella, Dance Party, Current Hits, Chear-Up, and school stuff).
Really, I don't find myself bored with 1800 songs!

wow... was it really that cheap. right when i need to buy one do i see this post on head-fi.
In regards to how much space you need. i think that some people with huge libraries just want to be able to have the song of choice right at their grasp. I need space because i travel a lot and need video space

I know. Before, I used to be fine with 20GB iPods. However, as I discover new genres and new music, my playlists get bigger and bigger. Now, just my 60+ classical lossless albums take more than 20GB.

Fair enough, but you don't need lossless files on your portable device, right? Can't you just set it to automatically convert the files when you sync? I can't imagine you're going to find much difference on files played without a home-level system.
Or am I wrong?

You're right. I can't tell the difference between the lossless and say AAC @ 320K. But I always rip them in lossless format on classical music because I want the best quality for my library and I spend many minutes updating tags and album covers. Anyone who organizes classical music will understand how PITA it is to update tags on classical music. And once that's done, I really don't feel like spending any more time converting it into lossy file. I guess the main reason I want big GB is the convenience. At any moment, if I feel like listening to some songs that I haven't been listening for awhile, I'd like to play it right away rather than waiting all day to go home and listen.
