Is a $60,000 amp worth it?

Wait what's with your feedback?

It depends how much the rest of your system is worth. I think if your system is worth $10,000+ then using a $50 BJC would be kind of silly. But OTOH, if your system is worth $200 then you probably shouldn't be spending $200+ on a cable.

The right question would be how much percentage of your systems value would you spend on cables.

If a $600 amp can do the same, then no -- unless you just like an amp made of gold and encrusted with diamonds.

What about my feedback?

wait, why? If BJC does just as well as Jena, what would be the purpose of going with Jena, besides its looks, or "bling factor"?

X2 No matter what your vote, this statement is true. As always it is what the buyer hears that is important, and not what others believe. I have owned cables with significant SQ improvements that cost way over $400. For my ears it was worth the money.

I use Blue Jeans Cable with a $10,000+ setup. It's not silly at all; it sounds just as good as any other cable I've "heard."

Take a look some time at what cables actually cost to manufacture. Anyone paying a 4,000% (or more) markup is getting screwed.

How did you come to the conclusion that a 600 dollar amp performs as well as a 60,000 dollar amp? Same for the cables, how in the hell did you figure out that a 30 dollar BJC is just as good as a 400 dollar Audioquest or Kimber?

If you go around dumping your money into 'expensive' things, you're not going to get your money's worth. It's not about buying 'expensive' cables. It's all about buying something that works for you. Before I paid $300 for the headphone cable I have, I read as many reviews as I could find as well as many posts as I could find on the subject. My cable purchase helped correct much of what I found lacking in the HD600s, so I found that it was well worth the money.

Keeping this in mind I would think that a 10,000 system with 30 dollar cables is a waste of a 10,000 dollar system. Why spend 10 grand on a rig and limit it with cheap cables when people are hearing a sizable difference with systems costing much less?

I did not concluded anything, I merely stated "if". Now, I understand that odds are, in reality, a $60,000 will indeed probably sound better than a $600 amp. But then again, that same $60,000 amp probably won't be much of an improvement over a $6,000 amp -- but this is a totally different argument, unrelated to the thread.

My concern here is with cables.
