Default Steve Hoffman to speak at Can Jam '09

Well hats off to Voltron for setting this up for CanJam 2009. Steve Hoffman and Joe Harley (Music Matters) have graciously agreed to speak at Can Jam Saturday 5/30/2009. The talk is going to center around their recent ground breaking work with the Music Matters Blue Note reissue series. For those that have not seen Steve talk, the hour or so is filled with amazing music and anecdotes from his work. I guarantee everyone who attends will get a ton of enjoyment and knowledge out of this lecture.

At the San Jose Headfest 2007 Steve's talk was standing room only!

Here is some information that Al has provided for the Steve Hoffman forum:

The focus of the talk will be the Music Matters Jazz Blue Note reissue series, not surprisingly, and it will be a great opportunity to hear some of the behind the scenes info and even more importantly cuts of music in their historic master tape form. Steve's talks are legendary, and he was the highlight of our Second Annual meet up in San Jose so don't miss it!"
I had the pleasure of attending one of Steve's talk at CES and it was outstanding, and Steve's HeadFest talk was standing room only. The hour plus talk is filled with music as I had never heard it and entertaining and informative information.

That's great news jp! I missed it at San Jose (or I forgot to be exact) and really regretted it. Did you guys catch any other seminars at CES?

Nope, ironbut, we only made it to Steve's talk and that took up a big chunk of our very limited time at the show. I wish we had seen Jim Merod who talked on Friday and Steve McCormack who was speaking at the same time as Steve Hoffman. We did get to meet and talk to Steve McCormack who is a great guy and he walked us through the details on his fantastic new preamp, the SMC Audio VRE-1. Great stuff and incredibly tempting even though I already have the new Doshi pre and was recently lusting over the Ayre!

The Hoffman/Harley talk and music demonstration is going to be incredible for sure. And taking an hour out of the weekend of gear lust to hear some incredible music history orally and with completely unavailable master tape clips will do us all some good.

That is great news, given that I missed San Jose... thank you, Al!

I think I have a Steve Hoffman remastered version of Joni Mitchell's Court And Spark. I don't have an original to compare to though.

Cool to hear the Steve is going to speak at CanJam 3009. I heard him speak at Headfest 2007 in San Jose. I particularly liked how he demonstrated those old Bing Crosby and Ray Charles songs in Mono and how great those older recordings sounded in comparison to the stuff out today. It was also a pleasure having an opportunity to speak privately for a few minutes with him. Scottsmrnyc

For those who cannot make the event, any chance it could be recorded and turned into a podcast or sommat?

A video was posted from the last Steve Hoffman speech (at Headfest '07), but all the good music he brought along had to be cut from the feed due to copyrights. Steve brings some great raw tracks with him to demonstrate the art of mastering.

Thanks for setting this up Al and John. I really enjoyed his talk last time, and as Matt mentioned, the interlacing of demo tracks to support his dialogue was brilliant.

Great News; a Great Speaker with access to some "never heard before" Great Music. Yet another great reason to get on down to CJ'09. This time given the location and the floor we may even be leaf-blower interruption free!

Wow, an industry icon for the event! Should be very interesting indeed, with some enlightenment about the recording of some great artists.

I got that Album also about two weeks! It's wonderful! I remember hearing it in San Jose!

I won't be attending Canjam, would love to listen to Steve again.

Any chance you will film and upload it as before??
