Default Other Activities Besides Exhibition

Would it be possible to setup other things besides just showing off your gear? Like a table that holds seminars or tutorials on audio DIY? Sessions on how to make your own cables or how to make durable and attractive casings for amps?

Or any other suggestions on other categories of tables we could have?

I believe there are a number of talks like the Hoffman talk.. I think a DIY talk/session may happen as well? Not sure what the current status is though.

We do not have a DIY event or workshop scheduled but I do think it is a great idea. There are several prominent DIYers that are coming and if they wanted to run a workshop or talk that would be great.

Default DIY Speaker Builders Needed

Yes, and it would be really nice if we had a corner dedicated to speaker DIYers to share and advise. Anyone with some experience and advice on building desktop near field speakers would generate a large crowd I would imagine.

I don't have any nearfield desktop speakers, but I could bring the ProAc Response 2.5 clones or DIY ribbons along with the Conrad-Johnson amp. Let me know if anyone is interested.

How about a TUBE SWAP TABLE?

I imagine many of us own very nice tubes, but others may have others you always wanted to try. Those just starting out with tube gear may also benefit greatly by trying some actual rare tubes before plunking down the $$$ on ebay...

While I really love speakers of all stripes at this moment we do not have a seperate space to accomodate speakers.

We are open to trade/sell ideas or DIY if someone steps up and can facilitate it. Please keep these ideas comng they are really good just please keep an eye on how you can be a part in making it happen.

Production-Performance-Reproduction- it might be interesting to have a lecture or discussion group about Production and Performance from the musician/artist side of this great hobbie. It seems to me that most people in Headfi only are interested in Reproduction. Some of us, including me in an independent Artist/Musician kind of way- work at all aspects of the Love Of Music Business. I hate using the word Music Business- as I don't consider myself to be in the Music Business Game. I don't claim to be a great musician- but I have repeatedly gone through the total process as the founding member of my musical group The Exploration Project. I have been involved in all aspects of Production-Performance and Reproduction. I would not mind giving a short hour or so lecture and QA on the topic of Production/Performance/Reproduction. Just don't run me out of town; as some of my views are a little on the radical side. THERE IS A LOT MORE TO MUSCIC THAN JUST SITTING IN A CHAIR AND LISTENING TO IT. I would honor the opportunity to run a hour or so lecture etc on this subject. Can someone put me down for this. Scottsmrnyc

Independent Production-Independent Performance-Reproduction-Of course I am coming from NYC and have to board a big jet plane; so I will be limited in terms of my hands on materials for such a lecture session. So I hope you can understand. Scottsmrnyc

This sounds like a great lecture, I would love to hear you speak about the recording / production side of the music business. I am involved with the music business, but don't know that much about the recording and mastering side of things. Thanks for volunteering

Yeah, I'll be there. Personally, I made suggestions for other activities mainly because I want to learn about DIY and was wondering if someone out there had the time to contribute...

Unfortunately, it seems that my idea or forum for Independent Musicians and other artist types is waiting approval from the CanJam2009 board of directors. As I have said before, I don't claim to be an expert on this topic but have had my own experiences and some level of success. I don't want to open up a can a worms here, but it would be great to have more of a forum QA get together than to have a straight lecture. I am only at this for about 7 years; as I have just retired from my main line of work. Perhaps the B of D will allow our meeting to go on or perhaps not. Perhaps we could even have a seperate meeting in someones hotel room or in the hotel cafe over coffee. Talent is a relative term. The world is an imperfect place. The Independent Artist with his or her imperfections should have a chance to be represented in some way. Lets work on having a quick seperate meeting if necessary over coffee etc at CanJam2009. A DIY area or couple of tables might be a really good idea if enough interest was shown by attendees. I guess the challenge would be if it was to happen at all would it focus on amps, cables or modding? Again, the interests of the attendees would make the final call on this subject.

Default Friday Night and Saturday Night Activities

Sorry, I wandered off the OP's topic.

For those arriving Friday and would like suggestions for places to eat, wander around or look for live music, local Head-Fiers can provide quite a few ideas. Some people may need to start a carpool or cab share thread for transportation to restaurants and live music for Friday and Saturday evening but rest assured there is plenty to choose from within reasonable distance but you will need to know where you are going.
