Congrats and good luck to the Chicago organizers! As far as a long-haul VanJam, I think I would prefer to spend the time actually in Chicago rather than on the road. What a great city, and hopefully one that will work for our Northern neighbors who were missed at CanJam this year.
ChiJam here we come!

As Ryan and Bryan have said, thanks a ton to Jim (morphsci) for spearheading this effort. I'm looking forward to working with the team to organize a CanJam everyone can have a blast at. Everyone get ready to come to Chicago - it's almost impossible not to have a good time!

Quite nice news!
We certainly could need a international meeting outside US, but don't seems like anyone are willing or capable of stepping up to it. So US it is again...
Sure hope for a June event.

I think we all would like to see that, but it seems a long way off at this point! We just don't have the numbers anywhere else except the US.
Heck, our counterparts across the pond can't even seem to be able to arrange a decent sized regional meet anywhere in the UK. What gives with that? Seems like anything over 50 miles is a long drive!
There would also be a huge cost factor in terms of getting members and vendors to commit to making it happen. Not to mention the time involved with cross-Atlantic travel.
These are the same issues I've always encountered when I've considered hosting a meet in Cayman (which I've tried to do a couple of times). It wouldn't make sense unless people were coming for at least 4-5 days, so they can see the place, relax on the beaches, etc.
In the case of London, I'd think a week would be perfect, but good luck in: 1) getting enough people interested, and 2) doing it at a time when it works with their schedules.

Can't believe I left the good ole boy out...but a HUGE THANK YOU to our own bhd812, affectionately known as "Beely", for being the driving force to the chiunifi meets, which have been a big part in bringing canjam to Chicago, and whose experience with those events will help us greatly with the planning for canjam '10.

Thanks to the team for taking this on. Chicago is a great city and it will no doubt be a blast.
I'm looking forward to making my first canjam!
Don't know that I have any skills to offer, but I'm glad to help out!

"In Britain 100 miles is a long way and in the USA 100 years is a long time."
But you'd think 50 miles was a long drive too if your petrol was $6.20 per US gallon.

Good point!
Guess we all want to be in our local area, but it takes quite a bit of effort, money, time, .. to get it going.
I am prepared to travel to attend a meeting, but 6-8,000 miles is a long way.

Does not that work the same both ways?
I does not take us Europeans any less time or money traveling to the US, than for you to travel to Europe.
Lots of headphone vendors are based in Europe, like Sennheiser, AKG, Ultrasone, Beyerdynamic, ...
Few amplifier vendors though, but at least we have Meier-Audio.
Edit:
Anyway. Who ever know what will happen in 2011, 2012, ..
